IUIs with your regular OBGYN?
My regular obgyn offers in office IUIs....its cheaper to do it there then at a fertility clinic. I started clomind last month and had an IUI done, but it was not sucessful. My insurance does not cover IUIs, IVF or AF, so my husband and I decided for the present time to have IUIs done with my OBGYN.
Due to current fiancial issues, my husband and I are not going to a fertility clinic yet, but we don't know the sucess rate of IUIs done in regular obgyn offices....
Was wondering if anyone else did this and if it worked, please take poll below.

Re: IUIs with your regular OBGYN?
I would highly advise against IUIs with your OB/Gyn and I would even more highly caution against taking Clomid under their care. I was told this by many women on this board, yet I still allowed my OB/Gyn to treat me with Clomid and do two IUIs. I regret it everyday.
When taking Clomid you need to be monitored very closely with bloodwork and sonos. My OB/Gyn did one sono each cycle. When I got AF he already pre-scheduled my IUIs, instead of tailoring the schedule to how I responded. You never know how you’ll respond. Last cycle I had a follie go from 13.5mm to 21.5mm in just two days. They measured it 6 times because they couldn’t believe how much it grew in such a short period of time. My OB/Gyn would have never caught that because he didn’t do regular sonos. So because I wasn’t properly monitored, I don’t believe the IUIs were timed properly.
I let my OB/Gyn treat me because I trusted him and wanted him to be the one that got me PG. Now I feel like a fool and completely lost my trust in him. They charged me ridiculous amounts for things I’m not charged for at the RE, like the sperm washing kit. I feel like he preyed on my desperation when he should have sent me right to an RE. He couldn’t even give me a straight answer on whether or not I have PCOS (which I do) when I have just about every symptom listed for it.
I know this process can be very expensive, especially when seeing an RE. But I think if you want a baby that badly you’re much better off seeing the RE. You will be under the proper care and will probably end up saving money in the long run. Has your OB/Gyn even done any tests to warrant the Clomid? It’s so overprescribed by doctors it’s sickening.
Feel free to FM me. I know exactly how you feel.

Re: IUIs with your regular OBGYN?
My OBGYN montiored me correctly on clomid and would have done IUI's if they were necessary. They would do the sonos and montioring just like at the RE, but we realized we needed IVF right away and moved on.
Not all obgyns will be neglectful in the monitoring, you just need to know what to look for.
Also, at my obgyn, I had to pay copays for every single visit, and double if i had a sono and dr appt. With my RE no copays ever.

Re: IUIs with your regular OBGYN?
Before seeing an RE, I was under the care of an OB who put me on Clomid but with timed BD....
I cannot comment on IUI's with an OB, since I personally did not have one , but I will strongly advise being put on Clomid (or any fertlity med) by anyone aside from an RE .....I wasted 7 precious months being improperly monitored, only to learn that Clomid had a very bad drying effect on my CM and all the BD in the world would probably not have gotten my pregnant...3 months after seeing an RE I conceived my DS with an IUI...
Has he/she sent you for an HSG to make sure your tubes are clear ? Also has your DH had a SA done ??
Good Luck !!!!

Re: IUIs with your regular OBGYN?
Thank you all so much for taking the time to take my poll and reply....I have a feeling my husband & I might be a little too trusting with my OBGYN ...We have been trying for a year and a half now an dnow I am starting to re-think our decision to stay with my OBGYN...
I did have an HSG and everything looked good, my husband had a sperm anaylis and everything looked good too. My ob gyn did a 3rd day test and 22 and a 21 day test, and everything looked good there as well....I have not done any more tests though since taking clomid last month for the first time. We had planned to have another IUI this month, but I ovulated on Sunday and the office is closed
I live in Suffolk, does anyone recommend any clinics?

your situation is exactly why you should be with an RE and not an ob/gyn. only in a rare occaission would a good RE allow you to miss your IUI due to ovulating too early. if you are seeing an RE they monitor you pretty closely so that wouldn't happen except in a rare circumstance. and if they thought you would O on a day they were closed they would be able to give you ganirelix or something to stop O from happening. also, a good RE will help you figure out what the problem is so that they can fix it. good luck!! if you BD this month maybe you wont need to see an RE!!
