Cartilage piercing on a 13 year-old???

I must just be really overprotective and old fashioned. A friend of my daughter's just got 2 new earring holes(so now she has 3) and a cartilage piercing for her 13th birthday. Does anyone else see something wrong with this or am I being ridiculous???

I don't think you're being ridiculous...I honestly feel that anything beyond maybe a second hole in the ear is excessive for a teenager...if SD wants to put holes all over her she can do it when she's 18.

I have no problem with self-expression...she can dye her hair whatever color she wants...but I'm not going to let her permanently mark her body up until she's legally old enough to do it herself.

Nope. Not for me. 16, problematic, worth a grounding & taking it out. 18, there is nothing you can do about it. But 13? No way.

15 maybe, 13 no, I don't think that's really appropriate. But ask me again when Ava's 13 because piercings are generally not a big deal to me.

I got my cartilage pierced when I was 12....will I let my daughter....HECK NO!!!!
I never pierced her ears...I figure when she is older she can make that decision for herself. But as far as getting the cartilage done.....that she will have to do after she turns 18.

i don't see anything wrong with piercings personally, and I feel the sooner they get them, the quicker the "rebellion" of it wears off.....

I got one when I was 13 or 14. I don't really see the big deal. It's still an earring not a facial piercing. I had my belly button pierced when I turned 16.

My dd had hers pierced at 12 she wore it for 2 weeks and took it out. She is almost 15. She has a bellybutton ring and the inner thing in her ear pierced. She is also a very very good student, cheerleader and has been good as far as I know (And i snoop). I had a very strict father and we always snuck around. His stringent rules were stifling and ridiculous. To me if a child is going to be bad, slutty, druggy, good whatever, things like that don't determine it. That being said, no tattoos until older, to permanent (I have them)

not at 13 - maybe at 16 if she wanted it. I got mine done at 17. DD has her ears pierced from when she was a baby, and wants her 2nd holes - I told her she can get them for her confirmation (she'll be just over 14 at that point)

I would say 13 is too young. It takes a lot of extra care when you get your cartilage pierced. I did mine at 21 and barely lasted a year because it kept getting infected no matter how often I cleaned it.
