SO FRUSTRATED!!!

I need to vent....

They give students reduced fare lunches if the family can't afford to pay full price. They give children that need help in the classroom more help and have additional staff in the class to assist. But I live a 1/2 a block from the bus stop and I can't put my daughter on the bus. WHY?? Because they say that I live less than the 1/2 mile to the closest entrance to the school. Which, according to my odometer must mean the fence at the other end of the school yard and not any actual physical entrance. My daughter is supposed to be dropped off at the main entrance and that is over the 1/2 mile distance. I had to take my sick 2 month old with me in the pouring rain to drop her sister off at school. When I call up the district they give me the same song and dance. "Sorry...thats unfortunate, and we understand your frustration". REALLY? DO YOU??
Make friends with other parents in the class. Sure, no problem...THEY ALL GET THE BUS!! And the children that dont get the bus? They live at the opposite side of the school. So I'd have to ask a parent who is already rushing their own kids to get to school and ask...."Hey...think you can make some time in your already busy morning to come get DD too??"
Want the best part!! They tell me...We can see if there are people in the area that we can set you up with that can drive your daughter. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! Thats your solution?? Let some STRANGER take my daughter to school??
We left Brooklyn and moved to Long Island so that my daughter can get a better education. And something as simple as getting her a seat on the school bus....that is 3/4 empty I might add...is a problem.
So instead of being able to walk her the 1/2 block to the bus....I have to walk her the over 1/2 mile to school(since obviously I'm not dropping her off at a fence post!)

I know it's not the same, but I have 2 kids in the same school, yet they don't allow pre-K on the bus yet, so I have 2 kids in the school, 2 different starting times, one can take the bus, other I have to drive, etc. Get's crazy and on days like this morning's torrential rain, it's a real PITA!

However, only 1/2 mile and kids get a bus? Our district you have to be 1.25 miles to get the bus. There are some parents with kids just under and I know they complain of the same thing!

I would fight them on the distance to the door. If they require you to drop off at one door for security then they have to take that into consideration in the mileage. When we were younger they would not even do the route to the school and just do a radius but in order to get to the jr high you would have to walk far around, until they got them to open the back gate. which made it a shorter trip. I would contact the transportation department or the superintendent to talk about the distance.
