Zumba

I took a zumba class last night and it was a lot of fun. The ladies there were drenched in sweat when it was done. I was damp - that is about it.

when I walk briskly on my treadmill I sweat so much more.

Will this work for me? I felt nothing this morning either, I mean I know I did do the dances right, but I didn't stop moving for the hour trying Chat Icon

Re: Zumba

You may find that the more you do the class, the more you are able to "get into it" and work a little bit harder. Once your body learns the movements you can kind of push yourself to get more out of it. OR it's just not the class for you, everyone is different. Zumba doesn't work for me, but I've seen a ton of success stories from it.

Re: Zumba

I know how you feel. My workouts are pretty intense, including one long run a week of at least 10 miles. An hour of zumba feels like nothing compared to my runs. I honestly just think its too easy for me.

Re: Zumba

I have found that the more dance- based the class, the better it is. You tend to engage more muscles in the overall workout. I've gone to classes at my gym with one instructor who is very "step-like" in her style and I've barely broken a sweat.

The instructor I LOVE is very into the actual dances (spanish as well as hip hop) and there's a hell of a lot more movin' and shakin' going on in. I've always left her class completely soaked and sore as hell.

Re: Zumba

I had to switch it up. I started going to a new dance class down here, Cardio Funk.
Hip Hop with a ton of jumping jacks and all that.

Not as much fun as Zumba...but at 25 minutes into it, I feel like I am going to die.

Re: Zumba

I have taken a bunch of classes with different instructors and I have found that every time I go to a new instructor, or when the instructor that I have been going to for a while changes routines, I don't break much of a sweat either.

I think that you spend more time figuring out what the class is doing than actually doing the moves. Once you go a few times and get the routine down more and actually keep up, I find it to be more of a workout.

Give it a few more tries and see if it makes a difference!

Re: Zumba

I get drenched in sweat!

For me - the more repetitive the moves are, the easier they are to follow - plus, you can interject your own power moves into it.

I do not sweat when they are structured like a dance class - I sweat when they have dance moves that are fast, high energy, and incorporate intervals of cardio (Zumba is an intermittent workout) - I have taken almost every instructor out there - and there are a few that I walk out saying - eh - and a few that actually make me sweat.

I know when I teach, my people leave puddles on the floor. I take sweating as a huge compliment! Chat Icon

There is an instructor I know who teaches in your area and she kicks asss - FM me and I'll hook you up! Chat Icon

ITA with this. when i take it at a studio with this one instructor, i'm drenched. when i tried the one at the gym - nothing. in fact I wanted to punch her because her music sucked and I barely broke a sweat - it was BORING! Chat Icon
