anyone have difficulty breastfeeding?
My one week old only feeds off of one breast. He feeds for about 10 - 15 minutes every two-three hours. He usually falls asleep during the breastfeeding time. Anyone else have/had this? is it okay?

Re: anyone have difficulty breastfeeding?
It's not unheard of that some babies prefer one breast over the other, just keep trying one the other one as well... Maybe he is getting all he needs in those 10 - 15 minutes. Falling asleep during nursing is normal, our daughter does that or right after nursing

Re: anyone have difficulty breastfeeding?
If the baby is nursing only on one side you need to pump the other side to establish your supply and prevent a plugged duct or infection.
Try to start the baby nursing on his non-favored side. He could be getting milk more easily from the other side so that is another reason pumping is important.
Falling asleep is very normal. Try tickling the baby's feet and do not keep the baby wrapped up in blankets. If it is very warm the baby will fall alseep more easily. The LC told me to strip the baby down to a onesie and diaper to prevent her from falling asleep as easily.
If the Ped says she is losing weight then speak to a professional LC to help you with any specific issues.
