Please Help! Tell me if my tree is dead, pics included.
Can it be saved or is it already dead?
Please tell me I didn't kill it.  I gave it tons of water twice already today.

I don't think it's dead.
Just because the leaves may be curling and brownish, doesn't necessarily mean it's dead.
However, I am no expert.. what kind of tree is it, anyway?

The way the leaves are spotted makes me think it's got some kind of disease or blight. I would take the pics and a leaf to a good garden center and ask them about it. They may be able to suggest a treatment to help it.

I think a Dogwood? I know that it flowers in the spring.

You might want to call an arborist. We just had one look at a dogwood in our yard. Turns out the tree has anthracnose (a fungus) and they gave us a free estimate on treatment. HTH.

Looks like a Dogwood to me too. Mine is mature and the leaves tend to look crummy this time of year (mine do too right now).
I'd Google how to care for a young Dogwood first, make sure you're doing what you should for it. This may be a good time of year to fertilize too, but if it's diseased, I'd look into that before fertilizing.

The suggestion to have a certified arborist come out is a good one. You could also Google Cornell Extension and see if there's a convenient office near you. You can bring them samples and have them diagnose for a small fee.

Unfortunately I can't afford to have an arborist look at it and/or do treatments. I only paid $40 for it so I'm just going to do some research and see what I can do for it myself. I just planted it this spring.
Thank you for all the suggestions!
ETA - One more question - what kind of fertilizer would I need? Can I use the same fertilizer that I will be putting down on my grass?

It's not too close, but I'd suggest Bayport Flower House in Bayport on Montauk Highway, just west of Nicolls Road.

We have a VERY large, very mature dogwood in our backyard and it is the 1st tree on our block to change color - looks a lot like the color of your leaves but I don't believer it has the speckles on the leaves....
