annoyed with the assumption "I can eat whatever I want"
I'm sorry- I just need to vent!!
I'm a runner. I run on average 30 miles a week.
At the same time, I'm very into nutrition and eating healthy. Once in awhile I get a craving though, depending on how I did that week- I may give into it.
Sometimes, I might mention how I really want to eat certain bad foods, but I know they're not good for me and people tell me "You can eat like that, you work out so much anyway."
I just wish people understood no matter how much I run (even if its a long 10 mile day) if my calories in exceed my calories out- I WILL GAIN WEIGHT!!
Yes, I work out alot, but that doesn't mean I can gorge myself with desserts every single day. A 5 mile run for burns about 450 calories. That's not going to cover an ice cream sundae from friendly's.
It just annoys me that people assume I can eat whatever I want as a runner.

Re: annoyed with the assumption "I can eat whatever I want"
I know how you feel. People will say things to me like, you've lost so much weight already go ahead and have some cookies or you workout everyday, treat yourself. What they don't realize is that if I did that every time somebody said something to me I would gain like a pound a week! Losing weight and being fit is a battle and it's a way of life. When I want to have my splurge moments, I do. But I decide when to have them and what's worth it to me.

Re: annoyed with the assumption "I can eat whatever I want"
people are stupid, plain and simple. when i was pregnant, i lived about an hour away from my friends. i saw them a few times, each for a special occasion (birthday, etc.). over the course of those 9 months i think i had maybe 2 ice creams from the diner in their presence.
recently i was out with one of those friends and a coworker. (the friend has never been preggo, the coworker was at the same time as me). coworker and i were complaining about pregnancy weight gain (i had already lost my weight by then) and i commented about how i tried to keep it down but there's sometimes only so much you can do. friend comments that "all the ice cream sundaes didn't help" and basically that i had to stop making excuses and accept the blame. luckily coworker (who saw me everyday) came to my defense about how it was all swelling/water weight and a medical problem - not an ice cream one. (dd was a premie partly to this, i was consistently gaining 5-10lbs a week and would fluctuate the same during the course of the day - my feet were spilling over my shoes).
i'm still about that.
long story short, people are stupid. next time someone says that invite them on one of your runs.

Re: annoyed with the assumption "I can eat whatever I want"
Here here, people say that to me all the time. It's all about the diet. Running helps tone and trim but diet gets the fat off.
Two weekends ago I did a 14 mile run and I had said now that barely burned what I ate Labor Day weekend. My family was like oh sure it did and yada yada - umm no, I must have eater 5,000 calories in 4 days..so no I didnt burn that off in one run!
Some people dont realize how many calories are in certain things. Burger and fries easily 1000 calories. If I have that for lunch I am almost at my max of calories for the day! Sheesh
I also get annoyed when people watch what I eat and say oh you eat so light and you can have more than that. This makes my blood boil. This is how to stay thin PEOPLE! Watch what you eat. Not gorge yuor face every day.
Whew vent much?

Re: annoyed with the assumption "I can eat whatever I want"
I understand. I get annoyed when people who are bigger than I am make comments to me like I have nothing to worry about with weight, or I am so skinny and they are so fat blah blah blah.
It's a very uncomfortable conversation. Especially if I am not even speaking about weight or dieting and they say these things to me.
