what would you do
i am not due til Sept but i have a friend who is already hinting that how great it would be if i took care of her kid (my godson) while I am on maternity leave (with my 1st child) so that she doesn't have to worry about cost and being delayed by tranist, etc. how would you handle this situation?

Re: what would you do
I expecting my first as well, so I don't speak from experience. However I think it may be alot to take on with your first child. Have you been reading the parenting board and how hard it seems in the very beginning trying to get into a groove with feedings and sleep.
If the conversation comes up I would tell her that you would love to, but think it may be too much for you in the beginning. Maybe if after a few weeks things are going well you can offer to take on another child, but I think with this being your first you are better off focusing on your baby.
Good luck

Re: what would you do
I would nicely explain how you are a 1st time mom, you don't know how the baby will be (could be a great baby or have its days and nights mixed up or colicky, etc) and you don't know if you can handle your new baby and your godson. When I think back, I probably would not have been able to care for another baby and Hayley. She was good but when she took naps so did I because she was not a great sleeper (still isn't...)

You will barely have time for yourself in the beginning, let alone someone elses child. I would absolutely poltiely explain that you want to take the time to spend with your baby and not have any additional worries/stress/respsonsibilteis.

No way!! you do not know what your life will be like when you bring baby home. You will need that time to have for yourself and to dedicate to your newborn baby. I agree with ddunne.
