Help me out cake bakers !

My uncle has asked me to make a cake for his 50th birthday party....

I want it to be the front of a 50's car
( maybe a 57 Chevy) and I want to put some battery operated headlights on it if I can find something to work...

A while back I found a cake idea I wanted to work off of and now I can't find it Chat Icon

I only want to do the front of the car
(I guess the grill Chat Icon )

Anyone have any sites they go to for ideas, or does anyone feel like finding this for me Chat Icon ??

Re: Help me out cake bakers !

Thank you !!! I like the red one...

Now to try to figure out how I can make that into a cake with my limited cake making abilities Chat Icon

All the cake sites I am finding have the whole car and I was hoping to avoid doing the whole car somehow Chat Icon

I tried to find you some cake images of fronts of cars to give you something to work with....

Best I could come up with...

Just making a rectangular cake and then decorating it should be all it takes

I really like this one Chat Icon Thank You !!!

This is sort of what I have in mind , since I decided to make my life difficult and I have the working headlights stuck in my head Chat Icon

I then wanted to make the license plate say "DAN-50" or something like that (his name), so this is perfect...

I think I'll have my DH do up a sketch and see how I can execute it on cake...

Thanks again !!!

Re: Help me out cake bakers !

For headlights you can get those self contained tea lights and they come in red "flames" look for flameless candles.

Something like this pack gets you both red and yellow. http://www.amazon.com/Changing-Everlasting-Tealights-Additional-batteries/dp/B003OO7G8S/ref=pd_bxgy_hi_img_bhttp://www.amazon.com/Changing-Everlasting-Tealights-Additional-batteries/dp/B003OO7G8S/ref=pd_bxgy_hi_img_b

So I would bake a cake and then cut out two circles where you will insert the "candles"make sure to keep the cake you cut out to fill in the areas you need cake for. I would not put the lights on for a long time to prevent causing a fire. HTH

eta: if you can, make clear sugar dome shaped disks to go over the "flame" and look like actual lights. Alternatively find some small plastic dome shapes and they will do too, but again, don't leave the lights on for a long time.

Thank you !

Ironically I was at Micheals yesterday for something unrelated and found what I think may work for headlights !

They are meant to go inside pumpkins and I think they are the perfect size...If I hadnt seen those I would definately gone with the ones you suggested here Chat Icon

I think I will need some silver accents Chat Icon

Do they sell some sort of silver dusting or something for cakes Chat Icon
maybe Ralph Rottens would have something that I can accent with silver thats edible ???

They sell silver "luster dust" that you can put on fondant or frosting to make it appear metallic.
You can either order it online, or buy it at The Chocolate Duck in Farmingdale. Michaels has some also....but it doesn't work as well.
