getting out of the vacation mind-set

Most people (myself included) have a mindset that there are no "diets" on vacation. Most vacations I pack on an extra 5-10lbs.

At the end of September, DH and I are going away to Florida for a week. FILs have a second house down there so we're staying there.

I'm running my first half marathon 2 days after we get back. Needless to say, I'm very concerned about my diet the week we're away! I can't afford to undo my hard work my eating high (bad) fat foods and going out to resturants. Luckily, we'll have access to a kitchen and can go food shopping for the week, but I still have 2 obstacles:

1. DH. When he goes away he wants to go to resturants and eat badly. He will not diet while on vacation.

2. Me. I have my "vacation" mindset that doesnt include dieting.

How can I handle these two roadblocks?

Re: getting out of the vacation mind-set

I was half marathon training on the last cruise we went on. I did indulge but I made sure no matter what the next morning I was at the gym or running laps on the track on the upper deck. There were some mornings that I was so hungover and felt like crap but I just did it anyway. I tend to be very goal oriented.

If you are sticking to a training plan use that as your motivation to stick with it. If you do slack a bit I don't really think it will affect you much in the long run.

Perhaps be good during the day and indulge just a bit at night for dinner. Sometimes letting yourself go mentally in a controlled way can help you stay on program the rest of the day.

Just take it one meal and one day at a time. You can do it!!!

Good luck with your training and have fun on vaca!
