IVF may be our only hope..some questions
My husband has a very low sperm count. He has seen his urologist and the endocronologist and his urologist believes that IVF is our only option and the endo thinks it may be caused by something else. I am just tired of waiting and want to start the IVF process. I spoke with my Dr. and she said I could start taking the classes/consults I needed which the first one is tomorrow night at RSofNY in Mineola. My Dh did not want to even start the process because he still has hope it will change. I on the other hand am being realistic and told him that we should at least start doing the IVF class at RSofNY and see what happens. I am so nervous but I want this so bad. I know even if we do all the classes/consults we still may not even do this until December/January.
My Dr. told me that she thinks I should only do one egg for the first IVF cycle. I am a twin and twins run in my family and she thinks I could have twins. At this point I would be happy with one or with twins I just do not care either way. I know twins would be harder financially and also more risk in the pregnancy but I am fine with all of this. Is this my choice how many are implanted or is it the Dr's choice?

Re: IVF may be our only hope..some questions
I think we all hope to be able to conceive naturally and it’s hard to let that hope go. DH and I both struggled with this (denial) and i know its hard to have patience, but if IF taught me anything, it is patience. I hope you and your DH come to some compromise soon.
IVF is really more managable than i thought it was going to be. Best of luck to you !

Re: IVF may be our only hope..some questions
well usually from what i have been through and what i have read.... usually at least two are put in...... if you are definately NOT okay with twins or selective reduction.... then put one in ...but seems like alot to go through to only put one if if you have more than one good embryo.
usually its up to you and the doc and the embryologists suggestions and your personal feelings.... gl!

Re: IVF may be our only hope..some questions
I just did my first IVF cycle with RSofNY and they said that for women under 35 they usually recommend putting back only 1 embryo as long as it seems to be good quality. They also wrote my orders for 1-2 embryos on either day 3 or day 5. I spoke to Dr Stelling the day of my ER and he said he would be ok with transferring 2 if thats what I really wanted. We made it to a day 5 transfer and they (embryology) only put aside 1 blast to transfer because it "was such great quality and hatching on its own already" but when I got there and spoke to Dr Cain who was doing my transfer she was ok with me transferring two as long as I understood there was a huge risk of a twin pregnancy. So...we transferred two and are awaiting our beta the beginning of next week. I know they said they definitely would NOT do more than two, but if you feel like I did in that this is a lot to go through to put back only one then do whats in your heart and pray for the best! That is where I am at right now. I wish you the best!! Good Luck in whatever you decide to do.
