New Here /Intro

Hi everyone

Me and DH have not started TTC yet however i just got back from gyno with upsetting news. I have never gotten a period without birth control pills in my life. I have been on them for prob about 15 years. A few months ago I decided to go off of them to see what happens and to find out whats 'wrong' with me. They did blood work and today I just had a sono done. Apparently I have poly cystic ovarian syndrome and I have not ovulated at all in the past few months that I have gotten off the pill (so who knows if I even can ovulate on my own)

As a result my doc told me that as soon as we are ready to TTC to go directly to an RE as I will def need help getting pregnant and will not be able to do it on my own. She recommended one and said not to even try w/out going to her first.

I'm so upset. I can't believe I will not be able to just Chat Icon and get pregnant. I kinda feel like a failure. Is there still hope for me??

Thanks for listening.

Re: New Here /Intro

Hi. I was diagnosed with PCOS at 26 so I almost never got a period on my own. When DH and I were ready to TTC, we went straight to the RE. I was 32. My RE who I thought was great, Dr. Palter, did a bunch of tests and sonos and then we started with meds and had an IUI (intrauterine insemination) which is a relatively simple and painless procedure. We were successful after our 1st cycle and now have a 10 month old DS.

Don't lose hope and don't get discouraged. We are thinking about TTC again (which is why i was over here) and will be going right back to Dr. Palter. Don't feel like a failure. I felt weird about it sometimes too but in the end I have a healthy and happy baby and once you are preg, the rest of your journey will be just like anyone else's.

Welcome, hope your stay here is short.

PCOS is fairly common, and often easily treated....i know many women (on and off here) that have PCOS and went on to have succesful pregnancies. Best of luck to you !Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

i was dx with PCOS last november, at 28 years old. i had NO idea i had it. i got normal periods until i went on BCP at 17. when i went off of BCP at 28 AF never arrived. i ovulated without meds only sometimes, and its unpredictable.

i have been seeing an RE since I was diagnosed. it has been a roller coaster, i wont lie. but PCOS doesnt at all mean that you cant get pregnant, you will just need a little help. its really not the worst thing in the world. it took me a little time to accept this, but once i did it was full steam ahead to try and get pregnant. unfortunately after 6 medicated cycles its time for me to move on to IVF. but there are MANY great doctors out there and with medical technology the way it is, there are a lot of different options available.

i see Dr. Braverman in woodbury and he is one of my favorite people in the world. if you have questions or want to chat, feel free to FM!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I too have PCOS and much like you never got AF on my own...

I now have 2 DC's and 1 on the way with the help of an REChat Icon

You are a step ahead of the game by knowing what your issue is and that will get you one step closer to starting a family when you are ready to Chat Icon
