Chicken Soup
Can someone tell me a basic chicken soup recipe? I have a small whole chicken, carrots, potatoes, onion and celery on hand. I want to try it the way where you just put the whole chicken in. But, how do you get all the bones and other stuff out?
I usually make a roast chicken and then make stock with the carcass (also include some peppercorn, a whole onion, one carrot, one celery). I use the leftover meat and just add it in later with more diced carrots/celery/potato or small pasta/rice. If I freeze the stock then I sometimes just buy chicken breast, saute in butter and make the soup with that.

Re: Chicken Soup
Sounds like you need some GARLIC!!!
I just put the water, chicken, veges and let it go...
I will tell you a funny story: I made my MIL chix soup once when she was very sick w/bronchottis (sp). It was my first time w/o mom. So happy, made it at night and left it for her for lunch the next day... well, since mom always served it right away, she never mentioned to me that you have to take the meat off the bone BEFORE you refridgerate it or the chix fat will congeal... well, MIL had a nice pot of FAT that she had to fight with before she got to the soup.
