IVF and Insurance
so im pretty sure my insurance covers $30k per LIFETIME for IVF. actually its weird cause the plan says the $30k is for infertility services overall, but when i called dr. b the office said i had all $30k available, even though i have been treated for several cycles under this plan . im not going to question it, but im happy that its all still available to me. i hope i didnt screw myself and that the insurance company will figure out something and then take it out of my $30k. that's one of my fears...
anyway i dont want to make this a long post. can anyone tell me about how many cycles i would get out of $30k? obv this needs to be based on about what the insurance company would pay per cycle (not what i would pay out of pocket which i hear totals $15-$18k)..
any ideas? im so nervous about the financial aspects...

Re: IVF and Insurance
I also have $30k lifetime max and that includes all IVF medication. I just finished my second cycle and finished my $30k. We also did ICSI which is expensive. So on average I would say $30k is 2 or 2.5 cycles, depending on the clinic and if medication is included.
The clinic I went to for IVF did not have a relationship with my type of insurance (although I have IVF coverage) so obviously I didn't get any discounts since this was out of network.

Re: IVF and Insurance
It depends on your doctor and how he bills things and if he has a discount worked out with the insurance company. Because I go to a Center of Excellence, I am charged 6K an IVF cycle (including ICSI). This is very fortunate since without the center of excellence discount, I would have maxed out long ago....

Re: IVF and Insurance
Dr. b has a 2+2 program which i think is 20k that includes everything and its 8K per cycle, not including freezing.

Re: IVF and Insurance
im so scared of maxing out this money and not ending up with a .
plus when i spoke to dr. b's earlier they weren't sure why my previous treatment wasnt subtracted from the $30k and they think i need to look into that. i dont want to cause i dont want to tip off the insurance company and have them take past charges out of my $30k.
i was hoping the reduced rates would make IVF like $5k or something so at least I would have a bunch of tries. im so stressed about this!!

Re: IVF and Insurance
Just be aware that you might actually be charged the full rate they charge the insurance company and not the discounted rate that you might pay out of pocket. In your case you think you would pay more...I would double and triple check that. I just read a thread on another board where someone was shocked to see that she was charged the rate charged to her insurance carrier...it maxed her out. Don't forget that the cost of meds might also be included in that price.
