A gross question but Im still worried

think I have asked this before on this board, but I just have to ask again because I’m just not satisfied with the responses I’ve gotten from 3 different doctors.

I apologize in advance for the graphicness of my question:

I tend to get very heavy periods, pretty much on CD 2 and CD 3.  I can go through a super tampon in 1.5 hours (sometimes 2-3 times a day) on my heaviest day.  I also get, what I consider to be, very large clots on these days.  I’m talking sometimes 1-2 inches of God-knows-what coming out.  I actually can feel it passing at times.

This seems to occur every 2-3 cycles with less severe cycles in between.  I have explained this to 3 different OB/Gyn’s and even a bit to my RE and have been told by all that it’s normal to get that.  Is it just me, or does this seem a bit too passive to say that it’s “normal”.  I’ve expressed my concerns that this may have something to do with my struggle TTC, and have been checked for fibroids and whatnot, and been assured that this is not interfering and that I am just “unlucky”. Can any of you ladies tell me from your own personal experiences if I should stop worrying and stop insisting that this is in fact an issue? TIA

Personally - id look into it more. The more i learn about infertility issues the more shocked i am at how thing i thought were normal and ok could actually indicate a problem.

Im now learning that the brown bleeding i get at the end of AF could be something when i always thought that was just normalChat Icon

Sounds like it could be endometriosis. (sp)

I would not think this is normal.

Do you have a lot of pain. Is intercourse painful?

I have asked this over and over again and I am always told "oh no you don't have that - don't worry". I don't have much pain associated with the bleeding that is different from ordinary AF cramps. And I don't typically get any pains during intercourse except for certain times when DH and I get "creative" Chat Icon .

I've heard the only way to diagnose this is a Lap. Any reason why none of my Dr's, thus far, have suggested this? Chat Icon

I actually called LI IVF and spoke to the emergency nurse and told her that I went through 3 super tampons in 3 hours! She said to come in tomorrow to see the NP and if it keeps it up all night to call back for an er visit.

They make super-plus tampons for a reason. Chat Icon I bleed through them in an hour or so on my heavy day. My understanding is that this is not a problem or an indicator of a problem. Chat Icon

ETA: I also have clots and can feel them passing through.

It IS normal. 1-2 days of brown bleeding at the end of AF is normal and nothing at all to be concerned about. Chat Icon

Yep, lap is the only way to diagnose. And some docs will not do a invasive procedure if you don't meet some of the criteria.

I experience the same thing since going off BC. For a two or three days I can barely get a Super Tampon to last an hour. I have very large clots too. It's insane.

I actually went to the RE office first thing this am. I called yesterday and told them I had gone through 3 super tampons in 3 hours!!! They did an internal sono and found no cysts and nothing unusual. My lining has thinned out so she the bleeding should be tapering off (which it is) My gyno did the same thing about a year ago and found nothing. I guess it really is just my body and I'm just unlucky when it comes to AF issues Chat Icon .

Thanks

Re: A gross question but Im still worried

I have had bad cycles all my life. Five GYNs and one RE all told me everything was normal. Nothing could be done. Deal with it.

I went to a homeopath and she said that it was an easy fix. I have been under her care with a remedy for 5 months and it is the first time in my life i have not had to a) had to rely on midol/ aleve for the severe cramping or b) be chained to my home for fear of not being near a bathroom.

I wish I had found her years ago. I can't believe how much better my quality of life is during my cycles now.

Did this affect your fertility in any way?

I am on a break from IVF. When I mentioned it to my RE his only request was to tell the homeopath not to give me a remedy that effects estrogen. Otherwise, he had no problem with it. My homeopath stated that it is possible that my remedy could lead to better IVF cycles in the future, but did not promise that to me. Helping me with my cycles was something she was very confident she could help me with and of course, she has.

Re: A gross question but Im still worried

My next question for you would be, how old are you? I find as I get older that i bleed less. I used to have very heavy bleeding and now its not as much.

Have you had an HSG or saline sonogram? Though I think its more concerning if you are not bleeding. As that would indicate a blockage. Those clumps are your lining shedding.

Though couldn't hurt to get a thrombophila panel (blood clotting disorder tests). Just to be sure there's nothing there on that end. Insurance should cover it.

just saw this post and wanted to add that my ob gyn said some drs do not recommend or insist on Lap before you have kids. It is an invasive procedure after all.
