band for your knees

My son has problems with his knees when running (sometimes) the dr mentioned his ligaments raise between the petella and fibula bones of the knee and that he should wear a band around them. But I didn't think to ask where to get them. Does anyone know?? They are thin bands (black) that just go around the knee.

Or if you know of something else that would help?
