big renov AND do some yourself?

Has anyone had a major house renov...ie expanding a cape...and then some of the interior work themselves? how much money did you save? DH is wondering about this. Like, maybe he would do some of the tile work etc, painting

My parents did this 1+ years ago. They put up a shell to make a second floor, and they had someone do the electrical. But then my mom and dad sheet rocked, painted, and installed everything else by themselves. My dad said he probably saved a good 50k.
