Sears for Central AC
My husband called them (even thought I told him they are expensive) to upgrade our central ac (new ducts and system).
My question is if they give us a quote for example $12000 how much less would a private company be?

We used them to replace our CAC unit - They were among the lowest priced and best warranty, BUT Sears contracts their work out. The vendors that did the work were horrible. We initally had some issues with the unit not working and had to have them back several times. Since then we have had no problems. We had the unit replaced 5 years ago.

call around and get a lot of estimates
We got estimates from $9K - $20k for my house from all different private companies.
If you can make, you should wait until the fall or winter. they usually give better pricing then, and every company we priced out told us this

I would stay away from Sears, far far away. We did our central AC through them, it was a nightmare. Their guys, stepped through my ceiling, damaged the unit and my roof( from the inside) putting it in. It didn't work right, had leaks everywhere, and kept tripping a circuit. It took most of a year to get everything resolved. I insisted on a new unit, since the piece they put in the attic, they dropped it getting it up there and had a big dent in it. I ended up having to call Sears nat'l headquarters and it wasn't until I filed a nasty filing with BBB that anything got resolved. Sears finally sent a fix it crew to fix things. I was told by the contractor that sears sent to fix things that they subcontract work and occasionally it goes "bad". The next thing is I bought the extended warranty. Good Luck getting them to come in a timely fashion. I wanted the tuneup at the beginning of the season, called in March and they gave me a date in June.Even if they come in the cheapest price, stay away. Ok, enough ranting, but it was the worst experience I ever had with a business in my entire life.
