Re: marathon trainers come in...
Hi! I'm doing NYC on 11/7 and it will be my first marathon too! I'm doing an 18 week schedule by Hal Hidgon. I was on week 8 and my long run is 13 miiles. But I was on vacation so I didn't make the long run. I'm gonna repeat week 8 this week and do my 13 mile run on Friday. As of right now I should finish the schedule 2 weeks before the race. I was thinking of adding one more long run, so I can finish a week before, but not sure if thats a good idea. I guess I'll play that by ear. Good luck!

Re: marathon trainers come in...
I have 8 weeks left (I think I'm set on Hartford on 10-9). I had to rearrange my schedule, since I have to take off two weeks for some minor surgery. I did 18 miles yesterday and next weekend I'll do 20. After my 2 week break, I'm hoping to do 16-20-12-8-race.
tracy - I think you are well ahead of schedule for your first marathon. What does the rest of your schedule look like? since you are ahead, I would schedule in more step back weeks (once you get to 16-20 they really do hellp to refresh) or you could try to get an additional 19 or 20 mile run in.
jean - I wouldn't leave extra time at the end. you should end up with a 20 mile run 3 weeks before your race then begin tapering with 12 miles, 8 miles and then the race.

Thanks Erica, I wasn't sure what to do. I gave myself extra time at the end in case anything happened where I'd need to repeat a week (like this week with vacation). So do you think it would be ok if I repeated a week where I do 14...so my long runs would be:
12, 18, 14, 14, 20, 12, 8 race
Or do you think I should do something else? TIA!

Thanks!! I am ahead by two weeks, but I wanted to be a little ahead. I'm a teacher and sometimes get sick or too for very long runs at the beginning of the year. I think I am going to schedule in more step backs 16-20 if I stay healthy and all is going well. I have done two "official" half marathons, but have done a few more in training. So 13 wasn't new for me, but I have been doing a lot of longer runs and my toe nails aren't happy with me, lol!!

I saw a great sign during a marathon: "toenails are overrated"
