Workout length

On average, how many days a week do you work out and for how long? Also, are you trying to maintain your weight or lose?

I work out 5 days a week for about a half hour each time which is maintaining my weight. I think I'm going to kick it up a notch now because I want to lose about 5 more pound.

I was looking though the workout log and most people seem to work out for 1 hr or more at a time Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Workout length

1hr plus at least 2 times a week.
Walk 30-45 min 2-3 times a week.

If you want to loose lbs. You need to deduct cals a day either by eating less or burning w/exercise. Depending on how much/fast you want to loose.
-500 cals a day = 1lb a week.

Re: Workout length

I work out 4-6 days a week. This is a typical schedule:

Monday - run 3 miles
Tuesday - 1 hour zumba (or 45 minutes on elliptical) and 1 hour total body strenth training class
Wednesday - run 4-6 miles in the am and a 1 hour boot camp in the evening
Thursday - 1/2 hour step and 1 hour boot camp
Friday - long run (up to 13 miles this week)
Saturday - 1 hour boot camp
Sunday - rest

I lost 20 pounds last year and am just maintaining now, but my thighs just seem to take forever to get tone, even with all of this!

Re: Workout length

6 days a week. I work out twice a day every other day. So I end up working out about 10 times a week. I'm usually at the gym for an hour to 2 hours at a time.

I'm trying to maintain my weight and train for a half marathon.

Re: Workout length

4-5 days a week. I do 4-5 weight training sessions a week lasting about an hour at a time plus 3-4 cardio sessions from 20-60 minutes each!

I work out three days a week. I do three miles on the elliptical (which takes me anywhere from 26-30 mins). I then do resistance training for about 20-25 mins. I'm maintaining my figure & weight. Depending on how good am I with food, I sometimes lose a pound or two.

Re: Workout length

Try and train 4X per week so you have enough time to recover. Remember, while training you are causing damage to your body and the body must repair itself. You need ample recovery time. Increasing your workout another 30 minutes won't necessarily produce faster or better results. There is more to it than just increasing volume. Remember, 80% of your body composition comes from what you are eating, not how you are training:)

This is similar to me, my goal is to continue to maintain my weight and muscle-tone, have a healthy heart and strong bones, and look/feel good in my clothes.

I like to eat and I have very limited time to workout, so it's not easy. I do whatever I can (could be anywhere from 20-60 min each session) either on Excercise TV on demand -- pilates, circuit/interval, butt, abs, etc, and jog/walk for 30 min when I can (I also walk 4 flights of escalators in the morning lol!)

Re: Workout length

How do you have the time to go so much? I go 5x a week. My week typically is:
Monday: Spin class or elliptical
Tuesday: Hour training session
Wednesday: Spin class
Thursday: Hour training session
Friday: Spin class, pilates or treadmill

Saturday & Sunday DH and I will ride our bikes on a trail.
