Start with some simple syrup - 1 part water to 1 part sugar. Put it on the stove top and melt together until it is a hot, clear liquid. If you are using it for lemonade, add a little lemon juice or orange juice (fresh). You can store the syrup in a jar or bottle in the fridge.
The rest is easy - water, fresh squeezed lemons and then syrup to taste. I usually squeeze in a lime or half an orange for an extra little layer of flavor.
A lot of people put real lemon slices in the container for decorative purposes - I would advise putting them in the glass instead. Unless the whole container is going to be used that same day. The rind can make the lemonade a little bitter if it stays in there too long.
