so, what am I supposed to do here

and

apparently a car jumped the curb on a turn and plowed through one of my bushes before being stopped by the mighty oak tree in my front yard (and thankfully NOT coming up on to our patio AND our living room! )

it happened on July 12th in the afternoon.

there was a police report filed but NO ONE bothered to locate us. to knock on the door. NOTHING.

dh noticed the bush was split in half about 2 weeks ago but I hardly paid any mind to it.

my landscaper told us yesterday that he came the day after the accident when everything was fresh and saw what happened.

soooo, now we have a LARGE dead bush that needs to be replaced.

what am I supposed to do? do I contact MY homeowners?

and WTEFF is up with not telling us. the police were called. not even a NOTE on the door?

I don't get that. is that "normal?

Not sure what to do, but that is crazy that no one contacted you. I can't believe the police didn't leave a note.

I'd call the local police precinct and try to locate the accident report and driver. The driver's insurance is responsible for the damage to your property.

i would get a copy of the police report ASAP....if the driver has property damage on their policy it should pay for the damages...

I can't believe no one left a note! I would definitely contact the precinct to get a copy of the accident report if you haven't already and then contact your homeowners.

I would call your local precint non emergency number and ask for a copy of the incident report. Then I would call your home owners insurance, and have them duke it out with the driver's insurance policy to pay for the removal of the bush and installation of a new bush. I would also want to make 100% sure that the car actually did not hit your house. If it did and caused structural damage - i.e. a crack in the foundation I would want someone to look at that too. Good luck. I am sorry that the person was not more upfront about everything.

Since you know the car did not hit your house, I am not sure I would call your homeowners because it may make your home owners ins. increase. You may have problems with the driver's insurance too because they may say to you that it has been a month, did you water the bush, it has been a hot summer and other factors could have caused the bush to die, bugs, heat, etc. I am sorry that your bush died and that this is aggravating. I would see if you can find out the driver's insurance and contact them. If they are willing to pay, great. Depending upon the accident report, did the car hit the tree? I just don't want it to fall on your house....Frankly in the spring time you can get nice sized shrubs at costco for very little.

I wouldn't file a claim with homeowner's ins. for a bush - I would make the guilty party pay for the tree removal...

thank you. I called the PCt and got the accident report number.

I know for a fact it didn't hit my house. it would have had to go through the oak tree (knocking it down) and another large bush.

ugh. will this make my homeowners go up??? we had to put in a claim for my flood in October and it went up $70.

I don't want it to go up again for a bush!

ETA: the kicker is, whoever I was on the phone with at the PCT was all pissy with ME?
"this happened over a month ago" "you don't talk to your neighbors?"

um no *****, and if they are snotty as you, I'll definitely keep it that way!

Last New Year's Eve a car spun onto my grass and crashed into a huge tree. It tore my lawn up(made a big hole) and the tree seemed OK. the police knocked on my door, made me look at the damage and asked if I wanted a police report. His insurance would have paid to fix my lawn, but honestly, it wasn't work my time or effort. When spring came, I just fixed it myself. But the point is, the Insurance of the driver should cover your damage if you want it.

A situation like this is the very reason I hate Orange County

The cops are jerks and the people at the town are even worse. I probably wouldn't put in a claim for this, any reason to raise your rate I'm sure they will.
