29mm follicle?
Yesterday was my 1st RE appointment and I am SO happy we decided to go to an RE. He was amazing and in the 2.5 hour consult I had bloodwork done and an internal sono. The RE says that internally I look fine, I have a 29mm follicle on my left ovary. BUT on my right I have a blood cyst. Of course I freaked out, but he assured me that it was probably a follicle that ruptured causing the cyst. Has anyone heard of this? Also, does this mean that I was producing 2 eggs? Kind of clueless to all of this, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 29mm follicle?
Of course I'm no expert to this, but 29mm sounds too big for a follicle, or am I wrong? Dr Braverman doesn't let my follicle get any bigger than 22 mm and has me trigger. But then again I'm assuming that this is a natural cycle for you so maybe things are different when you're not taking meds If you had another follicle present that ruptured it sounds that you did produce 2 eggs. But your best bet is to talk to your RE and have him answer all of your questions. Good Luck!

Re: 29mm follicle?
I agree with the above poster...29mm sounds way too big for it to be a healthy egg....it sounds more like a cyst....I would try to get another opinion....It sounds like you released one egg from the other side and the 29mm follicle seems to be a cyst....
Natural cycles (without fertility meds) tend to release eggs at a smaller size (22-24 mm). RE's try to mimic that with their IVF patients. Clomid causes follicular to grow and release at a larger size (25-29 mm). Were you on Clomid?
Like the previous posted said I am also not a doctor and mainly dealt with medicated cycles (and might be wrong in my opinion) but something is off with the size....
GL to you!

Re: 29mm follicle?
Thanks ladies. I forgot to mention, yes I am on Clomid. The RE said the same thing as it being a cyst that is why he did not want to trigger. The game plan as of right now is an IUI next cycle. On my 3rd day blood work he want s to do another internal to see my ovaries and will decide if IUI is the next step.

Re: 29mm follicle?
On the day I had my first IUI one of my follies was 27. The doc didn't seem concerned. It was only 24 the day before when we triggered and then grew to 27 overnight.
Since this was your first RE visit there's not much they can do at this point. Next cycle (hopefully you get your BFP this cycle and don't need to go back ) they'll monitor you very closely and trigger you before the follies get too big. It sounds like you respond well to the Clomid so that's a good sign. Good luck!

Re: 29mm follicle?
I, too, just did a Clomid cycle and one of my follicles was 30 mm...it hurt like a mother when I ovulated...that's about it...there is a good chance of larger follicles/eggs when on Clomid

Re: 29mm follicle?
If you were taking Clomid, you should have been monitored sooner so that you could have been triggered earlier before the follicle/cyst got so big. I always always triggered between 18-20 mm. Coming out of one Clomid cycle, I had a cyst that was similiar in size to yours. It took only a few days to resolve itself and shrink so I was able to start Clomid again. GL!

This is one of the reasons I met with an RE. My OBGYN placed me on Clomid but I was never monitored, this was my 3rd cycle. So I asked on here and a lot of women told me that I should have been monitored sooner, so I made the switch to an RE. This site has been so helpful.

Re: 29mm follicle?
I am so glad! OBGYNs should really be banned from prescribing Clomid. You can't take the medication forever and so many GYNs waste girls time! Good for you for taking action!!!!!
