finding a urologist

We are beginning the process of finding a urologist because we know we are working with male factor infertility. How did you go about doing this? Do you just pick the very best doctor, regardless of location? Or is it like going to the RE, where location is important b/c of frequency you'll have to go? If the urologist isn't located at the office of an RE, how do they manage to work together (ie: literally, get the sperm to the egg)? That said, does anyone have recommendations of infertility urologists in Westchester, Riverdale, or Manhattan?

Thanks so much.

Re: finding a urologist

I believe we got a referral through our GP. DH has bi-lateral varicocele done with Dr. Bar-Chama in NYC (Mt. Sinai). Before DH had the surgery we did IVF/ICSI and no urologist was needed. They fertilize the egg at the RE office. Same thing with IUI..done at the RE office no urologist needed. Good Luck!!

Re: finding a urologist

We were referred to a urologist by RE - but i still reserched drs but found our dr to be a very good one in the field of male IF so we got lucky. The urologist will foward info to the RE - but its most likely that you'll go to the urologist and then once the problems are taken care of - you could go back to the RE (or try on your own if thats your only issue)

My dr is eastern suffolk - probably too far from you but the other dr that i researched that ive heard is one of the best in the field is Dr. Darius Paduch at Cornell
