RE Office Hours
Hi Ladies,
I have been TTC for about 1 year now (give or take a few months in between of just "seeing what happens". My bloodwork has come back ok except for a weak detection of Lupus Anti-Coagulant which I need to be re-tested for in 3 months. I just had an HSG this month, and my dr told me if I am not pregnant in the next 3 months to come back to him and he wants to refer me for an IUI.
I'm on my way out this month - I know AF is rounding the bend. Quite honestly, I don't think I can handle another 3 months of heart break and disappointment. I don't understand why, but for some reason this just isn't happening for us and I don't know what else to do.
That being said, I'm concerned about how I am going to fit RE visits into my schedule. I work in Manhattan and I just can't take off every time I have to go for an appt. I know I may be getting ahead of myself but I'm just so worried that I will just be adding to the stress by trying to juggle work with all of this.
Can anyone please give me an idea of how often I will need to see my RE in any given cycle? Also, does anyone know of any RE's that have evening, early OR weekend appointments? People have already raised an eyebrow at my job when I kept coming in late when I did the HSG, the bloodwork, and the rheumatoligist for the blood clot disorder. I'm fully prepared to leave my job if need be (I intend to be a SAHM anyway) but I would rather keep working to help contribute to our expenses while I still can.
Thank you for listening and for any advice you can offer. Even though I don't have a known issue as of yet, I just haven't felt comfortable on the TTC board lately. All the familiar "faces" have either moved on or come over to this board and I don't know where I belong any more.

Re: RE Office Hours
Other then the initial consult you will usually see RE during monitoring hours each cycle. Most offices monitoring hours are first thing in the morning. The hours where i go are 7-8:30 for monitoring. Its not by appointment, so the earlier you get there, the earlier you will get out. I recommend picking an RE that is close to your office. Good Luck!

Re: RE Office Hours
My RE opens at 6am more or less 7 days a week ...All monitoring is done between 6am-10am...IUI's etc can be later in the day (mine were always between 10-12) I have never had a problem getting an early AM appt...I go to RSOFNY in Stony Brook, but they also have an office in Mineola, Islip and Brooklyn...
It really depends on what type of cycle you are doing that will dtermine how many times you will need to be there..An IVF cycle you may need to go in for blood/sonos a few times a week...IUI's you go more sporadically with the majority of appts. being in the week leading up to the IUI..
Maybe try to find an office that is nearby to your job ? My practice you can go to any of the offices at any time which is nice....
It's a hard first step to make, but evry worth it in the end..
Good Luck !!

Monitoring would be considered bloodwork and/or sonograms
ETA- Throughout your cycle , bloodwork and sonograms need to taken on different days to see progress and check levels

Re: RE Office Hours
An RE office is going to be MUCH more flexible with their hours than a regular doctor. I go to East Coast Fertility and they have early morning appointments, evening appointments, as well as weekend hours.
Your first appointment would probably be scheduled later in the day because the doctors are doing monitoring in the morning and IUIs/IVF during the day. Mine was at 5pm so I just skipped lunch and left a little early to make it.
Once your cycle starts you’ll begin monitoring, which is just bloodwork and sono all done at the RE’s office. You can go early in the morning before work. The number of times you’ll have to go will depend on how your body responds to any meds you’re on. You always go on CD3, and then a few more times until it’s “go time”.
Honestly, after a year I’d just go to the RE instead of waiting three months like your doctor wants you to. It’s worth it to have all the testing done and be monitored. Good luck!

exactly what i was going to say
i go to RS of NY in Mineola - their first appts are at 6:30 a.m., so i have plenty of time to get in there for any blood/sono's and still get back to where i live, get to the train and into the city for work. Their office is right next to the Mineola train station, so if need be you could even take the train from there on those days you needed to go to the dr in the morning typically, i'm in the RE's office 4-6 times a month, depending on how big/fast the follicles develop, if i O on my own or need to be triggered etc The IUI's are the only procedures that i end up coming in late, or taking the day off for as those are done later in the morning. I've told my boss what i'm going through and that there may be a day or two each month that i have to come in late. Some months i don't need to, some i do.
The good thing is that RS of NY is open 7 days a week (since timing is everything) and are very accommodating.
i agree - don't wait 3 months, go to an RE right away and be properly monitored by someone who specializes in infertility - not by a regular gyno.
good luck!

Re: RE Office Hours
I would meet with a RE in the city if you work in the city.
However, you will want a RE that works with immune issues.
Start with a consult first and then worry about how you will manage appts.
Good luck.

i agree. when seeing an RE although scheduling is very important, i think its even more important that you are comfortable with the doctor and practice. you basically lose most of your shame when you see an RE, you are pants down every appointment , and that includes CD3 when you mostly likely have AF...so i really do think you should go to consults and make sure you are comfortable with the doctor first.
i see dr. b. he has probably the worst hours of all the REs on that get talked about on this board, because his earliest appointment is 8:30 and latest around 4:30. however he works with American Fertility Services in the city and you can do monitoring appointments there as well in the morning, which helps. the benefit of dr. b is that you ALWAYS see him. there is no other doctor and he does all of the monitoring and stuff, not a PA or a nurse, like in larger practices. when i go at AFS for monitoring, they are nice, but i dont get to see dr. b. he gets the info and then calls me later in the day, but its not the same as going to him directly.

Re: RE Office Hours
I read your post I want to offer
I also tried to conceive for about a year w/o luck and was told the same thing about the HSG, come back after 3 months.
We went to NSUH and they opened at 7am and I think they stayed opened late.
We were successful on medicated IUI round #2 and now we have 6 week old twin
I just want to say never give up and offer tons of it will happen for you!

Re: RE Office Hours
IF you end up needing treatment IUI or IVF, you will be stressed. You will be even more stressed if you go to a RE that expects you to ovulate ONLY between Mon-Fri 9-4. This is my advice- pick a RE based on his credentials, his #’s (check sart) office times, and Lab (muy important!).
If you work in the city I would start there. Juggling work commitments with RE appointments drove me nuts, seriously. The stress has been overwhelming at times. Larger offices have there advantages, they are usually open early and weekends, this WILL be very important to you and your sanity later on.
Good luck to you!!!

ITA!
There are a few big Clinics in the city with early morning monitoring hrs.
I went to Cornell in the city and worked with Dr Pak Chung. I loved them, I believe they are open at 7 am.
NYU or Mt Sinai also have well known fertility clinics in the city.
Goodluck!

Re: RE Office Hours
Thank you for all of the tips and advice. My only concern with going into the city is that DH won't be able to come with me. I heard there is a place in Melville with early morning hours and that's right near where I live and take the train. I might look into that but I'm going to have to sit with DH and go over everything first. I really appreciate all of your responses. This is going to be a very heavy step for me, but its comforting to know I'm not alone.

i am in the same boat, i work in the city, and I will go to RE in the city and DH will only be able to come for initial consult, he works far. So I will be going myself for monitoring.

I completely agree. And I would absolutely NOT wait three months. You've waited long enough.

im so sorry this has been such a hard and long journey for you. as ive told you before, i know how frustrating/disappointing/lonely each month can be. please stay strong and have faith that it will happen for you guys soon. the RE i went to in melville started monitoring (bloodwork/sonos) at 6 am. i would usually be in and out in less than 15 min. you dont really have to worry about your DH schedule bc he doesnt really need to be there for the morning testing...unless you wanted him there for support.
good luck...thinking of you

Re: RE Office Hours
Good Luck to you. How long have you been at your job? I remember when I started cycling I was upfront with my boss and told her that there would be times when I would be coming into the office late and they were very understanding, maybe you can do the same with your boss?
I went to North Shore of Manhasset and there offices open at 7am but at times they opened the doors at 6:45 so we could get our blood work done.
