What To Make For a Craft Fair
So I want to get a table at the craft fair my mom's church has. I've been meaning to do it for years and I never have.
When I go to other craft fairs I always check out the crochet tables. It seems like they all have the same-looking things. Baby booties, baby sweaters, pastel blankets in similar stitches, etc. Last craft fair I went to, I was fortunate to have some friends with a table across from a crochet table. I asked them to keep an eye on ot and see how much they sell. They barely sold anything.
THIS is exactly what makes me scared to have a table. On the other hand I make things that don't look like that stuff, so that could be good or very bad.
I thought I would ask fellow crafters what type of stuff YOU would buy at a fair. Here is what I was thinking of making:
Fingerless gloves (which complete strangers have asked me where I got them from)
Coffee Cup Cuffs (instead of the cardboard ones)
Wine Bottle Bags (for a hostess or holiday gift)
Door/Window Draft Guards
Gift Card Holder And then have a book of pictures of the dolls, blankets, play food, dog sweaters and kid sweaters I make that people can order.
What do you think? Would you buy that kind of stuff? I have to get a move on making this stuff if I'm gonna do it.
TIA!

Re: What To Make For a Craft Fair
i like the fingerless gloves idea. as a knitter, i have yet to make myself a pair.
i also like the idea of a wine bottle bag.
the others would depend a lot on the time of year the craft fair takes place.
please keep us posted on how it goes. i've toyed with the idea of a table, too... but have never had the courage to do it

Re: What To Make For a Craft Fair
Thanks! I'm trying to build up the courage to go through with it, lol.
This particular fair is the end of September/begining of October.
Although, now that I think of it, I have to see exactly when it is since I have a wedding to go to at the end of September, lol.

I would definitely buy a scarf - I don't know how time consuming that is for you but I love knitted scarves.

I didn't even think of doing scarves, lol! Depending on the stitch, it might not be too time consuming.
Thanks!!!

Perfect timing for it too! Good holiday gifts - you could market it as gifts for teachers, day care providers, co-workers, etc.

Re: What To Make For a Craft Fair
A few years ago I found a crochet pattern for an i-pod case. It was very fast to complete and my h.s. students always asked me about it. I will look on my computer tomorrow and see if I still have the pattern.

Re: What To Make For a Craft Fair
I quickly crocheted a wine bottle bag to see how it would comeout and it's pretty cute. Also, I finally took a pic of the fingerless gloves.
I made a Christmas colored wine bottle bag (which I have to take a picture of) and the gloves I'm making in 7-10 different color schemes. Image Attachment(s):

I love the wine bottle bags and I like the idea of the coffee cup cuffs. The ipod case would probably sell well too. Great ideas!

Re: What To Make For a Craft Fair
I always like to buy the crochet hot plates and not that it's crochet, but all the craft fairs I went to last fall I was on the hunt for table runners

Re: What To Make For a Craft Fair
See... when I go to craft fairs, I actually go to the crochet/knit tables and would most likely buy from them over anyone else. It's not even fun to go to craft fairs any more to see tables and tables of commercial bought LTD stuff! I like to buy real handmade things.
Your ideas sound (and look) great! Nice and modern and updated. Shows people that crochetting is not just for babies or granny shawls. I think if you had some food sets, they'd sell too. But with a book, you should get some orders. Are your prices reasonable?
When and where is this fair!?
I'd love to see more of your things. I'd love to be able to do that but not anytime soon! I just showed my mom a hat I knit for DS and she asked if I could make one for my cousin's baby and I was like no way, if I work that hard on it, I'll give it as a gift! I cannot see at all how it would be a lucrative career at the rate I go! If I charged by the hour, it would be a $300 hat!

Re: What To Make For a Craft Fair
Sorry I didn't see your post before it happened! It was this past Saturday. I started school and haven't had a chance to get on here.
I didn't do too badly. I made $85. I'm playing with the idea of doing another since I still have some of my goods left over. If I end up doing another I'll let you know!

Re: What To Make For a Craft Fair
I just went to the West Islip one on sunday and I know what you mean... I did look at all the crochet tables but one that caught my eye was one that had adorable hats for kids. I have no idea where to find the patterns but they were adorable... ex: hats that looked like acorns, lady bugs, mickey/minnie ears, flowers etc... They were well done too.. I didn't buy one only because I didn't have any money left and they were too big for ds but I got her card and will order one specially made for his size I think.. Good luck. Check out the Yarn's websites, they have good ideas.
