chandeliers??
for a chandelier over a dining room table do you think its better to have the bulb facing up or facing down?
facing down

Personal preference. I prefer the bulb facing up - our chandelier faces up, as well as our bathroom vanity lights.
The only ones that do not are the lights over our island.

Exactly - when you're sitting around the DR having a nice meal who wants to look up and see a lightbulb - especially if you paid good money for a chandelier.

I prefer facing up as well--my parents have one facing down and its very hot sitting at their table. Plus, I always feel like I'm about to get interrogated

The light over my dining table is facing down.
At the lighting shop they sandblasted the glass covers that go over the bulbs so the light is a little diffused and it doesn't blind your guests.

We're shopping around for a DR chandelier as well, and I definitely want up lights. I'll be using CFLs, so if I have an up light, I can use the twisted ones that I already have plenty of, and they won't look weird.
