Sheet thread count
What is a *decent* thread count for sheets? My SIL just moved into her first apartment and requested sheets as a HW gift. I don't want to break the bank as I already got her a few other things. So I need them to be comfortable, but not $200/set.
I have no idea what the thread counts are on our sheets.

Best sheets in the world:
Beech sheets from Bed, Bath and Beyond.
They come in sateen and jersey. My SIL has the sateen and loves them, I have the jersey and love them - like sleeping on a cloud. Best sheets in the whole wide world. So soft and comfortable.
Like $80 for a king set... don't forget to use the coupon.

You can get great sheets at Marshalls or Home Goods. I just got 550 thread count sheets (queen sized) at Home Good for $49

My understanding is that if the thread count is too high, they will not wash well or last long (we had 800 count and that's exactly what happened). More important is to find single thread woven - makes the sheets softer but they hold up better.

i agree! thats prob your best bang for your buck!
Overstock.com also has very inexpensive sheet sets...

Marshalls in FH Queens has huge selection , we just got some sheets there this weekend. We got two 6 pc(4 pillow cases instead of 2) sets, 100% cotton, 400 thread count for 29.99 , don't remember what brand and they are so soft and comfy. They also had RL sheets 4pc 100% cotton, 400 or 450 thread count I almost bought , for 29.99, but I needed more pillow cases so decided for the other set.
They also had great bedding selection (the ones with comforter,bed skirt+ sheets) , we saw few of the same bedding sets at BB&B for a lot more.

oh and to answer your Q, I think anything between 300-600 is very good.
