Egg Retrieval and Embryo Transfer

Are you awake during egg retrieval and embryo transfer? I forgot to ask Dr B but for some reason I have a bad feeling that I'll be awake Chat Icon So, if you are awake, does it hurt like a b$@#&?

Also, isn't it that one of the shots done for IVF hurts a lot? Is it the estrogen shot? How intense would you describe the pain from a scale of 1 to 10?

I'm a big chicken that's why I'm asking all these questions

You are out during ER Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon and awake for ET. Women here compare it to an IUI, not bad at all.

I was going to google it and see how they take the eggs out but I'm afraid I'm going to freak-out too much...Chat Icon Are you sure I'll be Chat Icon during ER? The receptionist girl at my acupunturist told me that I'll be awake, she said her friend was awake Chat Icon But that would be a bit too sadistic right? Did you confirm with Dr B about this? I was asleep for my ER but I have heard a few on here were awake for theirs
( not sure what the reason ) It was the best nap I've had in a long time Chat Icon

As for the shot, you are probably referring to the progesterone in oil
( the one that goes intramuscular in the tush)..The others are sub-cutaneous in the belly and I hardly felt them....Even the PIO for me is a piece of cake ( on a scale of 1-10 w/ 10 being the worst, for me it's maybe a 2 Chat Icon )
It looks WAY worse than it is, thats for sure !
Everyone is different though, You have to keep your eye on the prize ..All worth in in the end ( no pun intented Chat Icon )

ETA- Here is a post of someone who was awake for ER Chat Icon

Like the other ladies have said previously, I was asleep for ER and awake for ET. ET was literally 3 minutes. I didn't feel a thing.

The IVF shots for stimulation that I was on were follistim, menpur and lupron. Follistim and Lupron were not more than a pinch so I would say on a scale from 1-10, both were about a 2 or 3 max. The menopur hurt more and that was more like a 6.

If you're a huge wimp Chat Icon you should look into the EMLA cream. It's by prescription and it's basically a cream that numbs the skin so you don't feel the needle going in at all. I used the EMLA cream for the PIO shots, which are shots you get in the butt after a BFP. Those hurt more which is why I used the cream and then didn't feel a thing.

Good luck!Chat Icon Chat Icon
