I probably shouldn't be allowed to post on here, but here goes....

I am a diet and exercise failure! There I said it.

I have joined Weight Watcher's millions of time, and never stick to it. Ditto for joining the gym and never going.

I am always going to start eating better and exercise on "Monday".... every monday!!!! I have exercise equiptment in my basement that I never use.

We recently moved, and EVERYBODY in my new neighborhood is buff and healthy. I sit on my couch and watch them all jog past my house thinking "I'll start jogging too! On MONDAY!" Yeah right....

I am a real go-getter in every other aspect of life. If I were a therapist analyzing me, I would say that I was having a passive aggressive attitude toward healthy living. Kind of like, I do things all day long that I don't want to do, to add exercise and take away junk food, would be me having to do yet another thing that I "have" to do.

When I have free time, I'd rather shop, chat with friends, etc... Sweating just isn't something I am into.

Was anyone else ever like this? How can I change my perspective and find a healthier way of life, that I enjoy and that doesn't feel like another job???

Thanks

i can understand in a way,,,i think the only way to "stick" with it is to find true motivation and/or the thing that you love to do. i was the least athletic person ever for most of my life never put on a sneaker whatever. then somewhere along the line i started walking at night with my boyfriend (now DH!) at the track while he ran. i just went to spend time with him and that was the only reason Chat Icon but strangely that walking slooowwwwllyy sturned into running. 13 years later, i am a runner. have done 4 marathons, 1/2 marathons....the point is-i found something i love, i mean truly love. its something that challenges me and is MINE. now that i have kids, it's even more important that i keep this thing that is mine. when i am running it is just for me-my time to get out. i also try to remind myself that i am being healthy and hoping for a longer life to watch them grow and keep up with them. i don't want to be one of those out of shape people when i get old. my parents were not active at all and do not take care of themselves the way they should so that motivates me too. so in short, i just think you haven't found the exercise or thing that you really love yet-be it yoga, tennis, pilates, walking, swimming whatever..
good luck!

I agree. You have to find an activity that you enjoy. For me it's been yoga. I wish I had the time to do it daily, but I have been going 2-3x a week and this is probably the most work-out I've ever done!

If you don't have a desire to change, then why torture yourself? KWIM.

You don't have to do anything. And if you don't have the motivation, it's not going to happen.

Only YOU can decide what to do and what needs to be done.

So if you plenty happy with shopping, etc... then that's your thing.

It took me 3 years of "next Monday" too before I committed to anything. I joined a gym 1.5 year ago and went 3 times. I still did not put foot back in it but I started WW. I will go back when I am ready. Now is nto the time. I know I will have more time in the Fall when DS goes to school. Before that, I am sticking to gardening as my "workout" and WW. That's plenty for me! I kwow if I start too soon too quickly I will be overwhelmed and give up. I know me! So now, I am just doing WW and watching the food I eat. DH is on board with me so that is so helpful. I am losing weight so why do more than I need to. When I will start a plateau then I will add a bit more.

If you want to join a gym do Golds - I go so it would be nice to have someone to go with at night.

RAISING HAND!!!!

HATE the gym, still do.

I had to find something I liked doing. . .couch25k was my mover & zumba.

I was ALWAYS a "i'm going to do start on Monday" kind of person. I signed up for the ymca and getting pregnant was the best excuse I had for freezing my account. (side note- it still is)

I found that having something along the way with you is helpful b/c they are motivators. Mine is my sister & now we are doing something together and are both running a 5k together. I also found this board helpful, each and everyones daily posts pushes me.

My son was my biggest motivator. He's going to be an on the go type of little boy, so I wanted to do this for him so I could keep up without getting winded!

Hi Lori,

We live on Sea Cove off of Ocean Ave. I swear, there are at least 30+ joggers going past my house everyday- rain or shine! Try eating a donut while watching t.v. on my couch.....

I was thinking of checking out Gold's, maybe tomorrow. How is the child care?

Thanks, Tara

you live in a big running area LOL
i run on ocean avenue myself almost weekly. npt has great hills to train on and the cow harbor race in sept. is a big one so lots of people run the route as a training run-no wonder you're seeing so many runners!
p.s. i belong to golds and the childcare is very good. the facility is relatively new and clean. i haven't used it but it looks very well run and there looks like a lot for the kids to do. i even saw some of the older kids playing games on computers in there. they have movies too-looks cute!

I go at night because I can't work out around my kids. That is "my time" and I can really relax and get into it knowing they are home and in bed. I know, I'm weird lol.

But the facility was just redone and the woman who runs the childcare is wonderful. I would have no qualms putting them in there if I needed to.
