I started myself on a Spin 'program' !

Spin Class 2x a day on my days off and 1x a day on the days I work. Then, I do an hour, total, of the elliptical 2x a week whenever I can... usually after one of the spin classes or sometimes before.

Does anyone else do spin? Where do you do it? Do you like it? Do you recommend me pairing it with anything else??

I went this morning @ 9:30 and since I'm off today I'm going tonight at 6:30 -- I have gone before here and there but now I'm sticking to a steady schedule!

I'm doing this to firm up and trim a little before we go on a Cruise the end of August. Wish me luck! It is intense but I think it will show the most results.

Any advice? Chat Icon

My advice is don't do 2 classes in a day. It isn't necessary. I am a certified spin instructor and LOVE spin...think it's one of the best workouts out there. I also am a recovering exercise bulimia patient and can tell you that doing 2x a day workouts like that is not a good plan. One time a day is perfect. Are you weight training?

Also, 90% of fitness/weight loss is nutrition...especially if you are trying to do things quickly (which I never recommend.)

Spin is a great workout, I try to go 4-5 times a week, but Like Lauren said no need for 2x a day. If you feel the need to work out 2x a day, it might be beneficial to do weight training or a body sculpting class

Re: I started myself on a Spin 'program' !

I guess I thought I would 'jump start' myself since I have been out of the workout loop for a while. And it would only be 2x a week that I would do the twice a day, at the most. I did it today and it wasn't bad at all. Now that I'm into it I think once is fine...

Now, weight training, I'm a little clueless - what should I be doing? Should I lift free weights - for how long? 30 minutes??

I've never done that before but thank you so much for the advice!

I would do weights twice a week before a spin class rather than 2 spin classes.
Also take a day off and let your body rest. Take a like walk or an easy bike ride.

You don't need that much cardio to "jump start" weight loss...it's the diet! I'm telling ya! I used to do 3 sometiems 4 spin classes in a day (yes, i was ill.) and still had trouble reaching my goals. When I started working with my nutritionist for the wedding he had me doing 20 minute sessions 3x a week and i was able to lose all of the weight i wanted with the diet and the weight training.

As for the training, I would recommend doing a Legs Day, Pushing day (chest, tricep, shoulders) a pulling day (back bicep) and auxiliary (abs and calves)

On all exercises make sure you are going to failure. Vary the weight/rep counts too!

Legs Day I would choose exercises like - Barbell Squats, Lunges, Leg Presses, wall squats, static squats, leg extensions, hamstring curls or stiff legged deadlifts.

Pushing- Dumbbell Chest press (at different angles) DB Fly or Cable FLys, push presses, pushups, lateral raises, upright rows and regular military press with DB

Pulling- Cable rows, DB rows, lat Pull downs, Pull ups, sumo deadlifts, rack dead lifts

Auxiliary- crunches, planks, leg raises, torso twists, pikes on a swiss ball etc. (there are tns of exercises out there!)

I am sorry for the rant and if you think I am nuts but I am really into training and nutrition! Let me know ifi can help but please think about not doing so much cardio!

Me too!

I'm doing another this evening and then tomorrow I signed up for a Pilates Reformer class which normally cost $ but this one is free! I'm doing it with a friend and tonight I'm doing spin with my DH and my friend.

Oh and thanks for all the info everyone!
