New Orleans - need some planning help
As of now the plan for my FSIL is that her bacelorette party is going to be in New Orleans.
Has any one ever been. Any rec's for hotels and/or places to go at night?
TIA

Re: New Orleans - need some planning help
Maspero's is a great and cheap local restaurant in the French Quarter.
We also loved Copelands for dinner. I would normally avoid chains on vacay but it's specific to the south - I think the closest one to NY is in Maryland. They might have closed after Katrina, though.
There was this bar in the French Quarter that had a great band both times we went - I think it was called Red Door. Something like that. There is live music everywhere and most of the bars/clubs have no cover charge so you can just quickly hop to the next one if you don't like the music.
I love New Orleans!

Don't miss the Acme Oyster House...the line is out the door but the food is incredible and really cheap! And don't forget to wash it down with a pitcher of Abita beer! Love New Orleans - I'm very jealous!

Re: New Orleans - need some planning help
This is my standard NOLA post
We are creatures of habit so this is basically our "to do" list when we go:
Desire for Po Boy sandwichs. It's located in the Sonesta hotel on Bourbon Street.
Pat O'briens for hurricaines and dueling pianos. The drinks are pricy but they include a glass deposit - you get a few dollars back for each glass you return. The room gets really crowded but it's A LOT OF FUN!!
Mr. B's for dinner. They are located in the quarter. The food & service is really good!
Antoine's on St Louis - really good! It's one of the older establishments in the city.
Commander's Palace in the Garden District. We go for the Jazz Brunch. Outstanding doesn't begin to describe the food & service. I think they have a casual place in the quarter but we didn't get there after a particularly late night.
Touche - this is the lounge in the Omni Royal hotel. It's on the side street. It's a little quieter then bourbon street places with a local clientele.
Cafe du Monde for beignets and cafe au lait.
Besides eating & drinking we walk around jackson square, the river walk, the market place, wander through galleries that are all over the place and of course Bourbon Street. In the evening, we go in and out of places on Bourbon Street pretty much based on crowds and music.
Last time, we went on a swamp boat tour. We set it up with the hotel concierge. It was a lot of fun! We had a great tour guide. It's a little expensive (close to $100 pp) but it was so much fun! If it's cool when you go down, wear an extra layer - you go fast on the water so it feels even colder.
there are a million places to go but like I said we know what we like and just stay with that.
HTH!

Re: New Orleans - need some planning help
I stayed at the Inn on Bourbon a few years ago, I think it was a Best Western at the time. It was a nice hotel in an good location.
My BIL stayed at the Royal Sonesta and IIRC said it was terrific.
My favorite hotel is the Omni Royal Orleans on St Louis. It's a beautiful hotel located one block from Bourbon but he rooms can be on the small side.
When actually staying on Bourbon St, consider that it can be loud if your room faces Bourbon St.

Re: New Orleans - need some planning help
We went to a wedding there a few years ago and stayed at the Saint Louis Hotel -- it's on Bienville & Bourbon St. It was a really nice place to stay, and it was only $55/night. That was in 2008 so I don't know what the prices are like now, but they were very nice and we were pleased.
