Wilton classes at Michaels

Has anyon taken them? It looks like fun, but I am SO not artistic, but want to be better at decorating.

About how much do the supplies run?

The supplies will run you at least $50-$75. You also need to bring a cake to the class each week. They said some ppl brought in a pre-made cake but I didn't make it that far in the class. I went the first day, saw how much the supplies were and then dropped out :( They actually gave me my $$ back. I didn't think it was worth it. A friend suggested buying a book and teaching myself.

Re: Wilton classes at Michaels

I had a bad experience in Queens, 1st day it was canceled and no one called me, the instructor told me to come the following week and told me what to buy, showed up the week after there was no one there only me, he finally showed up and was like oh I was here the whole time...um no you weren't I was waiting for 40 mins...he did a one on one session which was ok...I stopped going because of the scheduling.

Its a lot of preparing, you have to bring everything the cake which has to be iced you have to bring colored icing which they want you to make homemade. It wasn't for me IMO.

Hope it works out for you!! Chat Icon

I did it and loved it! I can post some pics of the cakes I made if you're interested. It was pretty pricey. The class is usually discounted if you buy a kit or something. I forgot the specials they run. The supplies were the pricey part but if you're going to continue with it, it's worth it.

Re: Wilton classes at Michaels

Wow! Maybe your class was different than the one I went to. Mine was a 3 month class....maybe that's why there were so many supplies???

Same here. I bought a couple of Wilton books, and anytime I was confused about something, I just googled it... there are so many little instructional videos, etc.

One of the greatest things I learned online was making homemade marshmallow fondant that I could tint myself. I was so clueless, I had NO IDEA there was such a thing, I thought you could only buy the pre-rolled kind.

Good luck!
