Bathroom Progress Pictures

I wanted to share some progress pictures of my downstairs bathroom (it's the main bathroom on the first floor, the one that company uses).

If anyone is unhappy with their bathroom I just wanted to show how a little paint can go a long way.

These pictures are from when we first moved in.







With paint we changed the light fixture (originally was brushed nickel but we spray painted it to match the rest of the oil rubbed bronze in the bathroom), walls (BM Richmond Gray - a tropical green) and cabinetry (painted espresso). I still have some decorating to do and we may frame out the mirror but paint made a really big difference - it was totally worth the effort and a lot cheaper than buying a new cabinet and counter!

The most expensive change in the bathroom was the faucet.

Also, we removed the towel bar because I thought it was an eyesore and unnecessary. At this point the downstairs shower is not used but if it is needed in the future there is another towel bar in the shower.



The cabinet painted Espresso - what a change! Still looking to find the right hardware for the doors :)






So that is my makeover in progress - next is my bathroom! I can't wait to start painting the cabinets and walls in there

This looks amazing! Can you tell me what kind of paint you used to do the cabinet? Did you have to sand first? I'm sorry for the silly questions but I never did anything like this before. Thanks!

eta... I would def frame out mirror. I love the look of that and maybe crystal knobs like these from anthro would look awesome !

We have the same guest bathroom. The only difference is our countertop is tile.

I was thinking about painting it this weekend too! And you just convinced me I should.

How did you paint the cabinet!

painting made a huge difference, it really is worth the effort - i always see pictures of painted kitchen cabinets and it always makes such a huge impact so i figured it had to work in the bathroom too...

kokopelia i LOVE those knobs! now i have to try and convince my DH

originally i had plans to stain the cabinet so i had previously stripped it with Citristrip varnish. (you paint it on, let it sit for like 30 minutes and then you scrape off the finish to get to the bare wood). then we sanded everything, we prepped with wood conditioner and then we stained - but neither one of us was crazy about how it was coming out. then i came up with the idea to paint - which i had originally toyed with but we wanted to try staining first...

we just sanded again and then we painted. if we were starting from scratch i would use the varnish again, sand and then paint. i think i've read that you don't have to use varnish but i feel like it's better to get the old finish off and get to the bare wood.

we used Rustoleum Latex paint in Espresso. from what i have read you can use regular wall paint too and it works great. we used this particular paint b/c my parents had used it on wood in their house and they had good results and i loved the color. some people prime first others don't - i didn't prime.

we were going to buy a sprayer b/c we didn't want brush marks but they were expensive and we'd have to clear out an area in the garage to spray so we got foam rollers (prayed!) and used those instead . we did 3 light coats. we didn't end up with any drip marks or any roller marks - just do light even coats. i did use a brush on the trim pieces - we removed the old shoe moldings and bought new pieces, painted those and then nailed them back on with the nail gun. i also used a brush on the doors in hard to reach areas but then lightly went over it with the edge of the roller.

i also let the doors cure for almost 2 weeks before hanging them back up - different paints take longer than others to harden so i wanted to give it a few days to really harden up before hanging...

i didn't put any top coat/protective clear coat - my parents (who have used lots of different paints and stains on different things over the years) said to let it be for now and that it should be okay without a clear coat - if not i can always apply one in the future...
