Earwigs up in my BBQ. How do I get rid of them?
Anyone ever have a problem with Earwigs (or other insects) infesting your BBQ?
Something is drawing them to my grill. I gave the grill a thorough cleaning the other day. But they keep coming back, and in numbers. I think they are trying to nest in there (nasty).
I am going to scrub it down again, and replace all the drip trays and such. But I need to come up with a deterrant.
Thanks in advance.

thats really weird - did u turn it on? maybe they will all burn away and not come back? The earwigs are usually attracted to moisture

Re: Earwigs up in my BBQ. How do I get rid of them?
When I take off the weather cover of my grill, they all drop. A lot of them hang out and crawl on the inside portion of my vinyl cover that covers the entire grill.
Then for my two doors underneath the grill, they hide inside one of the doors and nest there. There must have been 30-40 of them easily. I have to take the hose and I hose them out whenever I need to use the grill. It's really nasty.
I never had this problem at my previous house. If I move the grill to a different portion of the patio, they go there as well. So they are attracted to something.

I would leave the cover off for a week and see if it makes a differences. Maybe get a different cover or one of the ones that just covers the top part of the grill if you are overly concerned about leaving it uncovered.

Re: Earwigs up in my BBQ. How do I get rid of them?
I had a problem with them, but inside the house. We read online to put a small bowl of olive oil (that's what they are attracted to....the oil in the grill) and they will climb in a drown.
Try that. Also maybe clean out the "drip pan" on the bottom of the grill.....that's probably where the oil is, but it's not deep enough to drown them.
Let me know how it works!

Re: Earwigs up in my BBQ. How do I get rid of them?
Thanks everyone. I don't want to put something like Olive Oil there as that will act as bait and may attract them (even though it will kill them).
I am scrubbing down the grill again, this time with more potent stuff. I bought a bunch of new drip trays and will be replacing those. Going to do all that and leave the grill uncovered for now and see what happens.
So annoying!

Re: Earwigs up in my BBQ. How do I get rid of them?
I just checked my BBQ and so far no earwigs.
I cleaned it real good two days ago. I also left the cover off. Since it hasn't rained, i guess they are avoiding the grill for now. Although I have a feeling once it rains they may come back. We'll see.
