hysteroscopy

who has had one?
i am going on monday for one with dr. b. my sono today had a bit of a spot but he thinks its outside the uterus so its just for preventative purposes.
what should i expect?
he said it doesnt hurt more than an AF cramp and that by the time i get the words out of my mouth to complain about it, its over. he did say though that someone needed to come with me to drive me home and that i shouldnt move around a whole lot for a little while afterwards Chat Icon Chat Icon..

sooo what should i expect??

Re: hysteroscopy

I had two done. They knock you out, so you dont feel anything, afterwards it really wasn't bad at all. You should def rest (and you will!) and the next day you are fine.. MAYBE some spotting but nothing horrible. Its an easy, painless procedure. Are you going to a hospital to get this done or at the office? I had to go to a hospital. Did your Doctor say that you will be under anestheia? I know in some cases they dont put you down....

i dont think i will be under anesthesia. im having it done at the office. he def made it seem like i would be awake for it though.

did you get the results immediately or do you have to wait?

Re: hysteroscopy

After I woke up, the doctor told me that she "cleaned" up all the polyps and all... and I was sent home

Re: hysteroscopy

I had one also, but it was the same situation as Athena...they knocked me out (I was at the hospital) and removed some polyps and tissue.
It sounds like yours is more just to check things out.
So, I can't tell you what it will be like during the procedure, but afterwards I had some pain meds and felt fine. By the next day, I was back to normal and even went out to lunch with my parents.

ETA: The doctor went over my results with DH (since I was groggy from the anesthesia) right away. I only had to wait for the pathology results, which it doesn't sound like you will have to worry about...unless he cuts something out.

Re: hysteroscopy - UPDATE below

so im back, it wasnt bad at all although i have some cramping now. the whole thing literally took 5 minutes.

i asked dr. b why some people have to go to the hospital and use anesthesia for this. he said its cause he has a 3mm scope which is much tinier and more expensive than most places. he said other places use a 10mm scope which you have to be under anesthesia to put in. im glad we were able to do it in the office, it was so quick and pretty painless, and i feel like there are more risks to anesthesia than there are to the actual hysteroscopy.

anyway it came back clean, and it was really weird to watch it on the TV.. the weirdest part was watching the scope go in - once it was in it wasnt so bad to watch, kind of interesting. but the going in part was a little Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon . anyway now im just waiting for dr. b to call me back with my protocol for this cycle, i can start this week so im back in the game Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

no we are actually still doing timed intercourse. i was able to get pregnant twice with that, they just both ended in chemicals. i asked dr. b if there was a benefit to IUI in my case and he said no.

so im waiting for dr. b to call back but i am sure it will include ovulation induction with femara/follistim and ovidrel trigger followed by crinone progesterone. then ill also be treated for the blood clotting and NK cells and HLA-C with a combo of prednison, lovenox, and intralipids. not sure what other concotions ill have to take, i just cant wait to get back in the game!!

thanks!! i feel like its a crazy amount of meds considering that im only doing timed intercourse and not like IVF or even IUI. like i hear the horror stories of people opening the IVF meds box and having it all over the kitchen table and what not - and i feel like im right there with them as far as quantity of meds!!
