Help with shots...

I figured you girls are experts and can give some pointersChat Icon

Ive been giving DH the hcg shots (generic one that you have to mix) for a few weeks but am still struggling with itChat Icon

My biggest problem is getting the solution in the vial - when i try to draw it up - its like the suction shoots it back down into the vial or when i suck up i get a ton of air - what am i doing wrongChat Icon Any tips are greatly appreciated!

As far as injecting DH - i do pretty good but sometimes it seems like a little solution leaks out - is that normal? I wonder if thats cause i have lots of air in the vial??

Thanks so much for any help!

Re: Help with shots...

Hmmm...I think you should try making sure that the bevel of the needle (slanted tip) is always in the solution when drawing it into the syringe. That should reduce the air bubbles. Also, before you begin pulling the medication out of the vial, remember to have some air in the barrel of the syringe, then insert the needle into the medication and slowly push the air into the vial.

As prev poster said:

1. Inject some air from your empty syringe into the vial along with the solution. Some vials have "vacuums" inside them and will make it hard to draw back solution unless you inject air INTO them.

2. Mix the solution in the vial.

3. When drawing up the solution from the vial, keep the needle tip as low as possible. but it's totally normal to get air IN the syringe.

4. Carefully squirt the air out of the syringe.

5. Inject into DH & depress the syringe plunger as much as you can. Wait a few seconds with the syringe depressed.

6. Pull out. A little fluid is OK.

Thanks so much for the help! When you say squirt the air out of the syringe - how do you do that? If i depress the syringe the fluid comes outChat Icon

Re: Help with shots...

Before you draw up the fluid pull back the syringe to like 1cc and then inject the air into the liquid.

The inject the liquid into the HCG, pull out the needle, pull back the syringe to 1cc, and inject into the liquid again before drawing it back up.... does that make sense?
