IUI Question

Hi. I just had my second IUI and have a few questions for you guys. They only do one IUI, not 2 back to back. What have other people done? I thought it would be better to do two, but the nurse said they haven't found that doing 2 will increase pregnancy results. I am using donor sperm which is VERY expensive so cost wise I did like that. What are the opinions of other drs? Also the 1st IUI my sperm donor's count was 16.7-very good. Well this time they ended up having to defrost 2 viles instead of one because the 1st vile count was 6.2 and the second one ended up being even worse at 4.7. They combined the two viles for the IUI but now Im questioning whether to switch donors if this IUI didnt work. Each vile is tested before being frozen and have a guarantee of at least 10 so I don't know what is going on. It was SOO hard to finally pick a donor and I'm comfortable with my choice. I don't know what to do. Any opinions??

Re: IUI Question

I never had back to back iui, I was always just told to Chat Icon that night and next day. I didn't have a male factor issue though, I just had pcos. It took us 3 iuis, and actually our last iui my DH had his lowest numbers and that was the time we got our bfp.

Best of luck!!

Re: IUI Question

I didn't have BTB IUI.

Neither did the people I had spoken to who were using donor sperm.

My RE did not think it improved chances significantly (and you can imagine that it's in an office's best interest to do it due to the fact they can bill for 2 IUIs, sperm washes, ultrasounds, office visits etc each cycle).

Good luck. I hope you don't have to worry about the next cycle.

Re: IUI Question

I never had B2B IUI's but my RE said it wasn't really necessary in my case as DH had great sperm counts (52 million +) and 94% motility so they said a B2B IUI wouldn't really increase my odds much. I guess every case is different.

Re: IUI Question

Thanks for the input everyone! I feel better about only one IUI. I guess I will wait to see if I am pregnant or not before trying to decide what to do about whether I should switch donors. One more week and I will know. I had two follicles so hopefully one will take!

Boy, sometimes two weeks just flies by- except when you're playing the infertility game, then it draaagggsss!!!

Re: IUI Question

I only had 1 IUI done and that's when we got our BFP. My DH's count was absolutely ridiculous at 159 million Chat Icon, so that's definitely what helped us.

Just remember out of the millions of sperm put inside of you, it only takes ONE to fertilize your eggie!!! Good Luck this cycle and I hope you won't have to even think about choosing a new donor. Good Luck in the 2WW and keep us posted!!!
