Seasonal

Ever crave something.. but not want to make it because it just feels wrong for the season?

I'm really wanting mac & cheese lately - baked with pancetta and carmelized onion and lots of creamy Gruyere and maybe some nice colby with a handful of Asiago. But it just seems so HEAVY for summer.

It's kind of the same way in the winter when I'm thinking I want a bright salad with citrus vinaigrette and I feel like it's too .. summery.

brussel sprouts - winter
zucchini bread - summer
pumpkin soup - autumn
asparagus frittata - spring

What things do you love that seem 'seasonal' to you.

Re: Seasonal

Fall and winter - butternut squash and tomato soups are always always always my top cravings. Add paella and chicken biryani to the cold weather food list.

Spring and summer -
seafood
insalata di riso (though it has to be made with what my family uses - I hate the recipes I see for it)
macedonia di frutta (except somehow my mom's always comes out better than mine so it has to be hers)
mango lassis
thai iced tea

There's a restaurant close to me that serves lobster mac and cheese - even though it's a cold weather food, it's too good to not order all year round. You should make that mac and cheese and invite me over.

2 things.. you must share your recipe for insalata di risi.. AND if making mac & cheese is what it will take to get your azz to stop by and be harrassed by my sons - it's on. Chat Icon
