Anybody ever use a service like 1-800-gotjunk?
We are in the process of cleaning out/redoing the upstairs of our house in preparation of the baby being born in August.
We have 2 bedrooms upstairs that we currently don't use, and the baby will be going in the larger of the 2. The smaller room right now is an office and we will just be moving the bed from the larger room into there.
In the larger room we have very old furniture that is not really fit to sell on craigslist or give away. We have some other things in the attic we'd like to get rid of as well.
My town sucks in terms of pick up/removal. We'd have to bring these items on 1 specific day a month the recycling center accepts this type of stuff. I'm anxious to get this done ASAP so I can get the carpets cleaned before the baby comes and we put the nursery together.
Has anyone ever used this service before, of a service like it?
If so, was it:
expensive? how was the customer service?
TIA!

Have you thought of just leaving it out by the curb...someone might just take it? That is what I usually do.

Not allowed in my town.... we can be fined for it.
ETA: Most of the stuff is broken anyway. Old crappy Ikea stuff

I remember we had to rent a dumpster once to clear out our yard once. I believe 1-800-GOT-JUNK and they were more expensive. We called around for quotes and went with East End Sanitiaton (not sure if they service you depending on where you are) But definitely call around.. I think you may be able to donate the furniture as well to Big Brothers and Big Sisters or some organazation like that - you may be able to put it in your yard or garage until they are able to pick it up...
ETA: with the dumpster they dropped it off on our driveway and we called them when we wanted it picked up so it was very convenient...

Re: Anybody ever use a service like 1-800-gotjunk?
We got an estimate with Got Junk. Basically, someone comes out to your place, looks at the stuff you want to get rid of and lets you know how much it would be to cart it away. You don't have to lift anything, just point out what you want gone.
The price was reasonable and not that different from renting a dumpster, which is what we ultimately did. The downside of Got Junk is that they will only remove exactly what it is you told them in the estimate. With the dumpster, you can put whatever you want in there, although you have to haul it in yourself. We had a bunch of stuff to clear out and wanted to do it over a few days so we went with the dumpster rental. If it fits in your driveway, you don't need a permit and can keep it however long.

we used them before we moved. it was great! DH was home for them. he said they were very nice and courteous. it was worth the cost! i think from what we threw out, it cost a little over $300.
they carried everything out the the basement, heavy things, bulky things, no problems!$10 coupon more coupons, printable

Re: Anybody ever use a service like 1-800-gotjunk?
Thanks everyone...
Yeah, as I posted before, we cannot leave ANYTHING in our yard (except the backyard). Our town has strict restrictions like that. You'd think for the $20k in taxes we pay every year, the town would be more "helpful" with this type of stuff. I see all the other towns around us that people can leave things at the curb for their recycling center. We are not allowed.
Plus... DH cannot move the stuff himself and I am 7 months pregnant.
I cannot donate the furniture also as I posted because most of it's broken (think IKEA 15 years ago). It really is garbage.
Marnie - Thanks... I think I'm going to give them a call. It's not really alot of stuff. Just heavy big stuff I need out of my house.
