wainscotting vs. tile in bathroom
we had a contractor come in about our bathroom. We mentioned we'd like to get wainscotting but he refused to put in anything but tile. his reason for this is because moisture and water will seep into the wood and it will get stained probably by the toilet if we don't have 100% marksmanship. Is there anyone who could verify this who's had it for a couple of years? I was surprised of his reaction since most remodel pics have it thanks!

Re: wainscotting vs. tile in bathroom
We have white wainscotting in our bathroom and it's been in for over a year and we don't have any problem. The people at LI Paneling told us to use the composite stuff in a bathroom, not real wood, due to the moisture, but that was the only issue.

they make vinyl wainscotting that is perfect for bathrooms.
Your contractor only wants to put in tile because its more labor and more money

Re: wainscotting vs. tile in bathroom
We redid our bathroom 3.5 years ago. We have wood wainscoting (suggested by the contractor) behind the toilet and sink and on the wall across. The entire tub area is tiled.
Anyway, we've had no issues at all. It's held up really, really well.
ETA: Pic. Also, if you don't have a fan, get one. I believe it's supposed to help with the moisture.
