Changing Name on Passport
For those of you that have changed your name on your passport...did you get a certified copy of your marriage certificate and send that or did you send your original copy of your marriage certificate?
I am a little hesitant on sending the original but I really don't feel like going through the hassle of getting a certified copy.

Re: Changing Name on Passport
I just sent mine in 2 weeks ago to have my name changed. I send in a copy of the original marriage license. They did cash my check and I have not received anything stating they couldn't accept it...so I think it is fine.

Re: Changing Name on Passport
I went in April and they just took a copy of my License since it had my new last name on it.
Well not really new since i change it 4 yrs ago, I was a little slow with updating my passport.

We sent an original copy and got our passports but didn't get the marriage certificate back! DH is investigating that tomorrow, actually!

Re: Changing Name on Passport
You send your original birth certificate you get the passport in the first place--so I don't see this being any more of an issue.

Re: Changing Name on Passport
Just an FYI - you don't necessarily need to change your name on your passport. I changed everything but my passport and still travel out of the country every year using my maiden name. Just make sure your airline tickets have your maiden name. Those and your passport need to match.

Thanks! I actually booked the airline in my married name. Then last night I was in the process of adding the flight and passport information to the cruise line and realized I needed to change my passport!

I did that by mistake once. Actually, my FIL booked me under my married name when we were all going to Aruba. I brought my marriage license and BC just in case. JFK gave me some problem (one lady was bad) then another person was nice and let us go, but we had to pay a fee. No problems in Aruba coming home. After that I said I'd change it. We got two marriage certificates. Sent the one in and got it back fine. Now there's no issues

That's exactly what I did. It wasn't really worth an extra $35 to get another copy to send in and they said they'd send it back, which they did. They just don't send it in the same envelope, so don't get nervous.
