I can't imagine being/getting pregnant
I am trying so hard to be positive about this IVF cycle but I cannot imagine it actually working. Whenever I think about getting the phone call about the beta all I can imagine is them saying "i'm sorry, it didn't work". Is this normal? Anybody else feel this way?
Anyone go through IVF thinking this way and get a BFP?

Re: I can't imagine being/getting pregnant
Before I saw 2 lines on my HPT, I literally could not fathom it actually happening. Granted we didn't try as long as most people who go through IF, but I had seen enough BFNs to feel like I could just not picture it..... and then the moment comes where it happens...... and you're running around the house in total shock- and once you hear that heartbeat, those BFNs will all be a memory!
As far as not imagine BEING pregnant... umm .. can't help you there because I'm 8 weeks tomorrow and I STILL can't imagine myself pregnant!! I'm still in that surreal phase.....

Re: I can't imagine being/getting pregnant
I thought was going to get the phone call saying "sorry, it didn't work out this month" I as actually dreading Dr. B calling me. instead, when he called, he said, "congratulations! you are very pregnant". 2 weeks later he said, "congratulations, your having twins". I'm only 6 weeks 3 days so it still does not even seem real. It's totally normal to feel that way. It will come when you least expect it!

Re: I can't imagine being/getting pregnant
I am right there with you. This is my first ivf and I have my beta on the 18th. I keep having dreams that I get the call and the nurse tells me better luck next time. I am so paranoid that I almost don't want to know if that makes sense.

It makes perfect sense, I haven't started injectibles yet but I feel like I don't even want to get past that point because at least now I can still be a little hopeful.

For someone whose been through it all... BFP and then MC, and getting a BFN... stay positive... I know how hard it is... it WILL happen, you just cant loose hope and you got to keep fighting for it. It all happens for a reason!

Re: I can't imagine being/getting pregnant
im in a similar boat. for some reason i feel like i will have no problem getting pregnant again with my current protocol (which probably is setting me up for disappointment if it doesn't happen right away next cycle)... i feel like staying pregnant for more than a few days seems like a dream. i feel like every day that i am pregnant i will just worry about it ending the whole time, at least until 12 weeks..
i know we should all just stay positive, and that a positive mindset really does help, but its so hard sometimes.

Re: I can't imagine being/getting pregnant
I know exactly how you feel although I'm not in the 2ww period yet. I'm on my second cycle of IVF and even now, I still can't imagine the idea that it's going to work. In a way, I feel like it's my own defense mechanism to prevent bringing my hopes up so high. On the other hand, my husband has been great with all the optimistic comments. Hang in there! It's definitely normal to feel that way

Re: I can't imagine being/getting pregnant
Its normal to feel that way. I think its a self defense mechanism. You don't want to get your hopes up. After so many failed cycles, when I took a hpt and saw a slight line, I just couldn't believe. I purchased 15 tests and as each came back positive I was more and more in shock. I was convinced that my beta would come back negative even though I saw all those positives. Its just tough waiting it out.
Wishing you the best of luck!!!!

Re: I can't imagine being/getting pregnant
I went through 2 IVF cycles. My first cycle was a disaster. I was sooo sick, overstimulated. No embies froze and I didn't get pregnant. I really had to prepare myself for my second cycle.. I had to accept the fact that I can only do so much...it really is out of our hands at the end. If it's meant to stick it will. I really kept my stress level down, rested as much as possible and treated my body as if it were already preggers. I had a very smooth second cycle thanks to my doctors who knew how to treat my body based off of my disasterous first cycle. Now I am almost 6 weeks pregnant! The mind/body thing has a lot of worth to it. You have to take care of ALL of you.

Re: I can't imagine being/getting pregnant
Forget the beta for now....there are many other hurdles you must overcome before you get to that...
There is ER (how many eggs you will get), then there is the fertilization results, then there is the waiting to see how many embryos survive and how many are good for transfer and then there is the actual 2ww and then the beta...as you can see not an easy process (BUT once you are done, it will seem like a piece of cake)...
At the end it all comes down to luck in my opinion (once you have an egg & a sperm(embryo), why shouldn't it work right??) well it is not so easy....
For me, I got a BFP on my first IVF but I had a MC at 7 weeks...then we tried again and BFN (#2)...after my second cycle, I wanted to give up and I thought it would never happen for us...well the third try was a lucky one for us and I got my DC!!
All I can say is take one day at a time...don't think ahead to the beta day...try to stay positive be "as normal as you can" take it easy and pray.....it will work (you have to put that in your head)...don't compare other people since everyone's cases are all different..it will only drive you crazy....
GL to you!!!!!

Re: I can't imagine being/getting pregnant
Totally. I just posted something similar. After soooo many BFNs and 4 failed b2b iuis, there are a lot of times, where I say to myself, maybe this is just not going to happen for me. It's really hard to stay positive, and I think going into this IVF cycle, I really need to get my head straight. There are so many unknowns, I feel like I am looking for answers that do not exist. There is no rhyme or reason, I am dx with unexplained. The loss of control is the hardest part of my journey for sure. Then I stop and think, every woman faced with IF has felt the same as me, and tons get pregnant, so there is HOPE.
You are not alone. HUGS

I felt the same way you did; I could not imagine that it was going to work for us and I could not envision the doctor saying "its positive". Well, today I am 15 weeks and everything is going quite well, thank God! I wish you all the best and lots of
