If you sell it for more than you owe on your mortgage, you would get the difference.

It depends upon if you had equity in the house or not. If you owed more money on the mortgage than what you sold the house for, then no, you get nothing and you would need to write your mortgage holder(s) checks unless they agreed to a short sale. If, on other hand, you had equity in your house and sold the house for a profit you would get money back at the closing. Your attorney should be able to help you with the checks.
