Sleeping through the night...

Obviously I did something wrong with my son since he never slept through the night... so when this baby comes I'm going to come to you guys for suggestions on how you do it at such a young age! Caiden was up every 2 hours every night for months and months and months. There's no way I can do it again with this baby! Chat Icon

Personally, I think that whether or not your baby sleeps through the night is 5% nurture and 95% nature.

Or perhaps thats just what I tell myself to justify why my 14 month old still needs a middle of the night feeding.... hmmm....

Every two hours for more than the first three months seems like really, really bad luck. I'm sure you'll have it easier the next time around!!!

Honestly for me it was just time. DD is 6 months old and just now sleeping on a regular basis.

You didn't do anything "wrong", Melissa! Chat Icon It's who they are. I had the same "routine" w/ Kevin as w/ Sean and Sean slept 11-12 hours straight from 7 weeks. Chat Icon Kevin, on the other hand, decided to wait until he was almost 9 months to do it consistently. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I happen to agree....Alyson was every 2 1/2 hrs for at least 8 weeks (SuperBowl Sunday was her fisrt long stretch). She's slowly stretched it out....

now she goes down around 8, fusses a couple of times either because she lost the paci or she wants a different position, then comes into our bed between 1-4am (still sleeping, but fussing) and eats between 5-6:30am. And then goes back to sleep till 8-9am!!

Re: Sleeping through the night...

The only thing I can say I consciously did was feed her every 4 hours during the day not letting her sleep through a feeding (per doctor's suggestion) and I let her sleep as long as she could at night...at first it was 3-4 hours then it was 5-6 and soon it was 10...

I also never put the lights on at night when feeding her, I was terrified of her having her days and nights screwed up...I just changed her diaper, fed her, burped her, and then held her until she fell back asleep.

I don't know if what I did worked exactly because she was such a good baby...so if I had a higher maintenance baby I might be singing a different tune!

Re: Sleeping through the night...

I feel like I tried all the recommendations with dd and have followed a consistent routine and she will be 5 months tomorrow and does not sleep through the night. She falls alseep well onher own and almost always at the same time. I stopped feeding her at her wakings after 2 months and now I usually just have to give her the pacifier and she will go back to sleep. She usually wakes up around 5 happy and alert for the day. I bought black out shades today to see if we can get her to sleep a little longer in the am. I agree like others said that it is all part of who they are. I feel Sydney doesnt like to sleep because she is afraid she is missing stuff!Chat Icon
