What to do with unwanted baby clothes?

I have a ton of clothes that people gave me for Jackson that I just don't really care for, so I'm trying to think of what to do with them. I could donate the clothes of course, but I was also thinking of selling the clothes on ebay. I've never sold anything on ebay though. Would this be hard?
Also, I was thinking of selling them to Once Upon a Child. Has anyone done this?

Re: What to do with unwanted baby clothes?

I gave all clothes that I didn't use or like, to my church.

I've sold some on ebay, donated others. I don't think ebay is that hard, just a little time consuming.

Re: What to do with unwanted baby clothes?

Another way to sell stuff quicker than ebay, and you dont have to worry about waiting for the time to be up, (watching the clock) no shipping etc. is craigslist.

Usually local moms will email you right back and buy the stuff from you.
Sell in lots/bunches to get rid of it quicker Chat Icon

ETA: Here's a link, its also free to post. plus you can add photos. what more can you ask for Chat Icon FM me if you need help with posting. once you get used to it, its awesome. and since you said youve never sold before, if you plan to start, you should create a new email account just for buying and selling stuff. it keeps the junk mail out of your personal account.

I hand them all down to other people or donate them to church. WHen Katrina hit, I got rid of a bunch of them.

eta. I'm sure you can sell them. I just don't have the patience to do it. I sold my crib set on Ebay. I realized I don't have time to be boxing up things & shipping them. I barely get to the post office.

Re: What to do with unwanted baby clothes?

I obviously haven't had my baby yet, but I was thinking that maybe a bunch of us should get together and do a clothing swap? I have TONS of clothes that are the complete wrong season for Ava, and she'll never wear them. Just a suggestion!

Thats a great idea! I have no use for all of Melanie summer clothes. This baby is a boy, so we need some boy clothes!

Re: What to do with unwanted baby clothes?

Ones with tags I tried to return to BRU and was successful with a lot of them. I then used that money for formula and diapers. Ones that I couldn't return or didn't have tags, I sold on Ebay.

ETA: Stuff that he's worn and outgrown, I'm storing and saving to pass down to somebody that needs them in the family.

Re: What to do with unwanted baby clothes?

well, if you sell on Ebay you have to ship...unless you have one of those stores that sells it for you and they take a percentage of the selling price.

are there any consignment stores near you? you can also look into donating to a womens' shelter, a home for single moms, or any kind of charity that helps women get back on their feet.

Re: What to do with unwanted baby clothes?

I work in a lower-income area of brooklyn and a lot of my students moms have had kids this year. I've written letters to those of them who just had babies saying that I have a lot of new stuff with tags still on them and would they like them, and they've always said yes and that they appreciate the help! So I've passed a LOT on to the families of my students this way. For one of my kids his mom had thier 8th child and she is a single mom, so I gave her a ton, even stuff Emily has grown out of that is in good condition, and she was SOOO thankful!

If they have tags, have you tried returning them?

Re: What to do with unwanted baby clothes?

I don't think selling on Ebay is hard at all. Shipping stuff can be a pain. If you go to USPS.com though, you can calculate shipping ahead of time, so have you have an idea. When I sell, I only have Paypal as an option, so the money is usually sent to you right away and then you can create a shipping label with the money right out of your Paypal account. THEN, if you don't feel like making the trip to the post office, you can schedule a pick-up and leave the package right on your front step and a mail carrier will come and get it.

PS. I know it's awful, but I ALWAYS overcharge for shipping by a few dollars. That way if you underestimate the weight of what you're selling or you have to ship further away than expected, you're pretty much covered. If you have any more questions about selling, feel free to FM me.

Sell them as a lot on ebay. I think baby clothes sell better that way.

Sell them on Ebay or you can return them to the store and get store credit w/o the receipt.

Re: What to do with unwanted baby clothes?

Ok, I hadn't thought of selling them as a lot on ebay. My sister said she knows how to do that so when she's visiting next weekend, she'll show me how.

Many of the clothes came from DH's relatives that live out of state, and they bought the clothes in specialty shops (I don't know what is with southerners and their fancy baby clothes; that's just not me.....) so I can't return them.
And I have a gazillion blankets and hooded towels. I just don't need that many!
