Girls with a green thumb....peonies
Our new house has 2 nice peonies that just bloomed. Do I have to do anything? Do I cut them at some point? I am so clueless!

I'm just as clueless as you but we have some and I don't think DH does anything to it.
I have seen people tie up branches on it (b/c the flowers are so heavy), like on those wooden stakes...just so it looks nicer and the flowers stay up.

We stake ours up, otherwise it would be on the ground. I think this is true with all flowers - that you should cut off the dead ones otherwise they continue to suck nutrients out of the plant.

Yes, you should "deadhead" the flowers. But don't remove the leaves; they carry important nutrients to the plant which they need for when they come back next year.
I have lots of peonies in front of my house and this is the advice I'll follow (from a gardening web site):
"To prevent the flowers from breaking or bending over during a strong wind or rain, provide a sturdy plant stake and tie the stem loosely to it with garden twine or strips of cloth. Remove the flowers as soon as they fade to prevent seed development, which will use up needed food reserves, and effect next years bloom. In the fall, after the foliage dies back, cut the stems back to three inches, remove and destroy them."

Re: Girls with a green thumb....peonies
I use these "Y stakes" for my peonies and you can't even tell they're there. The arms on them bend easily, but are very strong. The site says they are out of stock, but maybe you can find them somewhere else.
