what would you do?

we signed a contract and gave a big deposit to a contractor to do concrete work and pavers..the work was supposed to be done the second week of may. The week he was supposed to come he called and said he needed to postpone it for a week because the bad weather had pushed him back. The next week he called and said his truck was broken down and he would come in two days. Then his son called and said he was in the hospital and he needed another week or two. ***!!! I really wanted this done before Memorial Day so we could get the backyard in order. I really dont think hes lying to us i think hes just had bad luck but im seriously ready to get my money back and hire someone new, however i know if i get someone else they probably wouldnt be able to start immediately anyway.

A) You seem to believe him / trust him

B) You're not getting anything done before Memorial Day

If you really do believe him I would give him the benefit of the doubt - but tell him - I know you've had some bad luck, can you honestly get this done by *date*?
