Where are all my runners????
Okay so I had gotten a bruised toenail during my 10+ mile runs! It finally started going away and after the LI Half I got it back and 2 more to go with it. Now I ran last night (8 miles) and one of my bruised nails is killing me. I can put my thumb between my big toe and the front of my sneaker so I am good in size??? Anyone have any suggestions??? Looks like no light colors for me this summer!

Re: Where are all my runners????
Maybe you still need to go up in size? I buy my running sneakers a half size bigger than the rest of my shoes. Your feet can swell while running...do you still have as much room in your sneaker AFTER you run? Or maybe you need a wide shoe? I've never gotten bruised toe nails, but I broke my toe last summer and it started bothering me again about 2 weeks before my half marathon. Hope your toes feel better!

Re: Where are all my runners????
Some people are just more prone to "black toenail" than others. Bigger shoes won't help, it's just from the constant impact of long distance running. So I guess I really don't have a suggestion, more so just saying there's nothing you can really do about it other than cut back the miles and rest. Not much help I guess - sorry! :)

Re: Where are all my runners????
Well unfortunately the usual culprit here is the sneaker is too small. A few things to try though, keep your toe nails short (not too short) and wear tight fitting, non cotton socks. They say sometimes loose fitting socks can cause the nail to catch the top and pull.
Usually this problem happens when you pick up speed or do a lot of hill work. I have one toe nail that I lose every year because of this. When you pick up speed and go up and down hills your foot tends to move forward and crash into the wall causing the bruising.
If you are in tons of pain, because they can get really painful, go to a podiatrist and they can drain the blood...this will speed the healing and give you a lot of relief.
Feel better!
