Anyone do triathlons?
My sister is doing a triathlon at the end of July and I'm thinking about doing it with her. It's a sprint distance (500m swim, 11.5 mile bike, 5K run). I'm doing a half marathon this Sunday so I think the running shouldn't be a problem. I also do spinning classes 2x a week...is that good prep for the cycling part? I actually don't have a bike right now, but thinking of getting one...minor detail, right? The distances don't sound too bad to me, but I've never done these things back to back so I may be kidding myself. Is it realistic to train for this in just 2 months time? Any advice for training? I was thinking of jumping on the treadmill for a bit one day after spinning to see how hard it is and then adding pool workouts too. I think my sister is following the beginner plan from trinewbies.com so I might follow that too.

Re: Anyone do triathlons?
If you are in decent shape (I'm assuming you are with HM training), then I think you will get through it.
I will tell you, the 500m swim is going to be tougher than you think. If you can wear some kind of wetsuit (they might regulate it based on water temperature) it makes the swim a bit easier. I use only a shirt wetsuit for tris, it's easy to get out of.
also think about your other clothes. After the swim (I wear a sports bra, bathing suit bottoms and the wetsuit shirt) I throw on a wicking tank and biking shorts, so the wetness doesn't bother me and I just run in the same outfit. There are much better tri clothing, but I'm just not that into it to get the clothing.
Are you doing Tobay?

Re: Anyone do triathlons?
My Husband is a triathalete. I am nowhere near althetic, but I started running and I am going to get a bike soon. I am hoping I can at least try a tri one day - maybe next summer. If I do, I will hire a coach to train me!!
tobay is a great one to start out with!!!

Re: Anyone do triathlons?
Thanks for the advice! I think the Tobay one is full already so it would be the NJ state triathlon, which is right near my house. I'm torn about doing the triathlon or working on my running speed. I really love cycling too, but it kind of seems like a hassle right now with 2 small kids. There's so much stuff I'd need to get and I'm not sure I'm ready to make the commitment. I have to think about this!
